ABS is not the strike zone.
The box on the screen is not the strike zone.
This is a major issue. Openly flawed.

Hot Take: I like the ABS but placing the square in the middle of the plate is a little unfair to the umpires. There’s no “hitting the corner” any more like Maddux used to do. ABS should be the entire plate, not a slice in the middle of it

I get why people want ABS, and I’m likely in the minority here, but I much preferred the experience of watching baseball before the replay/challenge era, human error notwithstanding. Using tech to optimize everything is boring.

@RandyJones66 The latency concern can be resolved with a tone in an earpiece or similar, I believe. Nearly immediate for the viewing audience. The umpiring should be like all great officiating: consistent, accurate, and not front and center in the game.

@Memo_B_Random @nut_history I think the problem with that is the timing. The umpire gives you an immediate call (usually), but what we see seems to take a little longer.

In no other sport that involves a ball, do you get to miss 99% of the target and still get credit for the point. If the strike zone was a solid object like a crosswalk or a field bar or a tin cup on a putting greeen it’s a miss 100% of the time. I feel like the same principal should apply to Baseball.
