I spent a while working on this piece where I look at the implications of the finding that lower-income counties delegate complete tasks to the models rather than engage them collaboratively. I've grown even more curious about what we can do with the data frontier developers' are

Are we interrogating claims about algorithmic opacity or encouraging them? A powerful keynote from @alondra at @IASEAIorg. When it comes to AI, doubt is often actively produced via data collection opacity, fast deployment & NDAs.

It was pretty great attending the AI Impact Summit. The side events were especially useful, specifically thinking of the AI Safety Connect Day and the Global South Safety Network Dinner. Also, India is an amazing place with an equally amazing visa process :)

How should/do we evaluate frontier AI systems? How do/should we interpret the evidence? And how does/should that evidence constrain deployment? Oftentimes, these questions are answered from a narrow lens. In our new paper, we make the case for Africa-centric AI safety evals.

Proud to be part of this collaboration on identifying Africa-centric AI safety risks, led by @ILINAProgram! As the India AI Impact Summit gets underway, work examining context-specific AI evaluations & safety risks is needed now more than ever. arxiv.org/abs/2602.13757

Most AI eval work focuses on resource-rich Western countries. This paper shifts the conversation to Africa, arguing that frontier AI deployments here face unique risks that current safety evaluations are not designed to detect. It's an incredibly thought-out paper, please read!!!

We have a new paper out! We assess the case for Africa-centric AI safety evaluations. I'm pretty excited about it, particularly because it tries to handle questions I've also had about the practicalities of conducting evaluations. arxiv.org/abs/2602.13757

ILINA seminar applications close in 8 days (online application form) and 10 days (deadline to do the critical thinking test, which is part of the application). This should be an easy decision - You learn cutting edge stuff for free and get to meet insanely smart and lovely people
