A question for the home lab crowd:
What's the one piece of hardware in your setup that has been rock solid for years?
Not the newest thing.
The one that just keeps running.
Reliability is underrated.

For the last year and a half I have been daily driving @Linux_Mint. I have found that at first it was scary but the ability to just use it without having all the windows issues and crap has been awesome. Not to mention any USB device I plug in just works.
Today I found this awesome app by @MohamedBassem. Called Hoarder. It allows you to save links, pages and notes. Which is great since i can't remember todo anything or what I was trying to remember to look at. Here is his reddit post on it: reddit.com/r/selfhosted/c…

After 15 years, I've finally changed my avatar! 🎉
I’ve applied it everywhere—hopefully, this one is "less angry" and "less scary." 😅 Be honest—what's your verdict? 👀

The next version of my home server build is up and running. For those of us that can't afford massive rack mount options, for $20 this thing will be a monster. 64 gigs ddr4 250gig ssd. i5 6500. X3 3t hard drives. @TProxmox@home_assistant#selfhosted
#UptimeKuma is a real game changer in Self-Hosting. Most of my services just sit there doing their thing. But when one goes down, you don't tend to notice until things aren't working. Uptime Kuma lets you know before things go seriously wrong
So I got a new/old laptop today. It's not up to modern specs but when you run Linux as your daily driver. It is definitely an upgrade. Trying @Linux_Mint this time. I am familiar with Debian and based Linux. #nomorewindows11
@HomeTechHacker It's funny that you posted this. That's exactly what I'm working on today. I bought a mini PC with NICs probably just going to do the full pass-through firewall to start but it's a start
OPNsense makes good solid options, but you can save some money by going virtual or building your own router.

I have been daily driving @pop_os_official on my laptop now for over a year. I love how Linux based distros just work. I have had no issues with drivers or anything with printers or peripherals with Linux. They just work.
I am slowly in the process of moving away from motion sensors to mm wave sensors. I have been using RF motion sensors for five plus years.@home_assistant#homeautomation
I bought a dual NIC mini PC off of eBay. It was used from an office. Going to look at possibly building my own Wi-Fi. Router/firewall. Probably going to do the firewall route first with @opnsense
Started to play with LORA devices. Namely Yolink devices. It solved an issue where I needed a device down the end of my long driveway that zigbee and Wi-Fi would not work with. Now it just needs to be local with @home_assistant
@YolinkSmartHome really enjoying your products. Got your speaker hub and a few of your sensors. I've seen around the smart home community you might be going with a local integration with @home_assistant . If so, that would make you more awesome than you already are
@SmartHomeScene It's funny. I just received a matter device 4 hours before you posted this. It was easy to set up and install. I'm testing it now but, I'm not getting the hype. I have nothing but tasmota devices throughout my house that have been working for years.
So I have been playing around with this whole Matter thing with @home_assistant . I will say setting it up and pairing it was very easy. I've used nothing but zigbee and tasmota devices. We shall see how it goes going forward
When you go on vacation and you stay at an Airbnb. Your house that is automated at home. You realize how archaic it is to have to get up and turn off the lights or not have a bedroom routine that sets the house to asleep.
I am so glad I stopped paying for life @Life360 a couple of years ago. Now that they aren't playing nicely with @home_assistant and their customers. Another @myQConnect wanna be. #opensource
