Who pays when a St. Louis police officer crosses the line? Under Senate Bill 1657, the answer is: the city. Not the state-appointed Board of Police Commissioners that controls the department. Not the governor who appoints that board.

South Jefferson Avenue is getting new pavement, new stripes and improved safety features, including enhanced crosswalks, curb bump-outs and raised medians. This is part of the ARPA-funded $46 million project to improve safety on more than 30 miles of St. Louis arterials.

Our police officers deserve bigger paychecks, and the SLMPD needs to attract more officers. Additional pay is a key component of a compensation package that can attract and retain a high-quality workforce. Especially for employees who do such important and dangerous work 🧵

With about 9 inches of snow and very cold temperatures for the next several days, we know the next 24-48 hours are critical. That's why we prepared to bring in contractors ahead of the storm, and we have now activated those contracts, roughly doubling our fleet 🧵

Street Department crews have been out plowing all night as significant snow continued to fall across our city. Please continue to stay off the roads if possible, and give our operators the time and space they need if you must drive.

The heaviest snow has ended, but the snow is not over! Keep avoiding travel. Light to moderate snow will continue to accumulate on roads. In Illinois, blowing snow will cover roads and reduce visibilities today.

Please use caution if driving in the wintry conditions today. The Street Department pretreated arterial, secondary and hill routes in advance of the snow, and crews are out today working to keep road conditions as safe as possible.

This misinformation from Elliott Davis is unacceptable. The nearest walk-up shelter is a few blocks away at 1212 N. 13th St. and is currently operating around the clock. Should it fill up, there’s free transportation to other shelters. Elliott has been told many times.

St. Louis Street Department crews began pre-treating snow routes Friday morning ahead of potential snow Saturday. You may even have noticed some of our trucks out Thursday. Crews stand ready to bring out the snowplows when snow begins accumulating.
