Winter weather is returning to St. Louis with low temperatures and an increased probability of high winds and snow this evening. Transportation to shelter will be available Monday from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Please call 211 if you or someone you know needs access to shelter.

While this work is ongoing, do not park along these sections of Jefferson. Access to cross streets will be maintained, except when operations are directly passing by the intersection. Please proceed slowly when driving near crews or in lanes where the pavement has been removed.

If traveling between Chouteau and Gravois, note that we will be removing the old pavement this week and repaving the road next week. If traveling between Gravois and Chippewa, note that we will begin removing the old pavement next week. Two-way traffic will remain open.

South Jefferson Avenue is getting new pavement, new stripes and improved safety features, including enhanced crosswalks, curb bump-outs and raised medians. This is part of the ARPA-funded $46 million project to improve safety on more than 30 miles of St. Louis arterials.

Force detectives have been requested to the City Justice Center to investigate an in-custody death after a female detainee reportedly experienced a medical emergency. She was taken to the hospital where she died. An investigation is underway.

We know this can cause some issues as our plows push snow toward cars and driveways, and we ask for your support in assisting any neighbors who may need help digging out cars, sidewalks or driveways. Working together, we will get our streets in good shape.

Since this morning, we have been increasingly focusing on also opening residential streets and getting as much snow and ice removed as possible to avoid long-term icy conditions in neighborhoods.

We're nearing the 48-hour mark since snow stopped coming down. Most snow routes are now passable, and many are down to pavement. Today's warmer temps and sunlight will help activate the chemicals our crews are applying as they continue plowing in 12-hour shifts. 📸City file

In the grip of single-digit temperatures, a dog wandered onto the ice and suddenly found itself in a life-threatening situation. The ice gave way, leaving the dog trapped in frigid water, unable to swim to safety as the cold quickly took its toll. Within moments, our Marine #Rescue Task Force received the call and went to work. Crews launched, navigated the frozen conditions, and reached the dog just in time, carefully pulling it from the icy water and bringing it to safety. We’re happy to report the dog is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery. 🐾 This video shows the rescue boat arriving and the moment the dog is pulled from the frozen waters. Due to the continued extreme cold conditions and to allow the Street Department room to continue their work, the City of St. Louis non-essential operations will open at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
