Italy have lost a bunch of players to injury recently.
Several others are banged up ahead of Thursday’s crucial WCQ playoff.
With so much pressure to avoid a third failed WC cycle, this is where we need to see the Azzurri’s leaders step up and take charge.
We will learn a lot about many in this group on Thursday.

@RohanJivanAFC I’d say it was poor, not because of how we setup, but rather the intransigence as the game state unfolded
Everyone around me in the stadium could see the issues and were commenting on fairly common themes as to what needed changing

Only rewatched 25 minutes of the game back and there’s a lot to unpack, outside of the Cieth 4-2-4 block.
Think I’ll post a long read next week at some point as there are some serious reflection points, especially with Etihad soon to come.
I’d go as far as saying it was a really poor game from Mikel.

That said, Arteta & the players failed to adjust the game in front of them. City actually allowed us to go 4 v 4 against their backline,so why not take it & play long,over their press

Much debate on Arteta's Kepa/Raya keeper call. The big issue for me was Pep pushed 4 high when Kepa had the ball & pushed 2 on Rice & Zubimendi, which stopped Arsenal playing through City. This was where Raya's elite ball distribution & ability 2 go long over the press was missed

What even is the point of having international friendlies? Arsenal clearly have told all of their players to pull out of international duty. If FIFA don’t crack down on this behavior, we will end up having youth teams fielded in any game that’s not competitive qualifying.

Gabriel pulls out of the Brazil squad with a knee injury, joining William Saliba who will not be linking up with France. Trossard has dropped out of the Belgium squad. Odegaard and Timber also not linking up with their national teams as they work on their fitness over the break. Eze out of the England squad.

Bottom line, many players will leave today with regrets

Declan Rice consoled by Thomas Tuchel as he went up to collect his loser’s medal. Rice was the picture of frustration. Missed opportunity by Arsenal. They froze. Big names didn’t deliver. So many good players but just didn’t go for it. Inhibited almost. Failed to react tactically or with any real energy or defiance when City took control of midfield. Arsenal must use that frustration as fuel to drive them to the trophy that matters most - the title. Head off on international break (initially a break for Rice), refresh, regroup and attack the rest of the season. So much talent. So much still to play for. Have to stay strong and go again. #AFC

The midfield lacked his retention capabilities today
But i still cannot look past how poor Saka, Havertz and Trossard were. 3
Experienced, quality pros who offered nothing on nor off the ball today. That, for me, was THE issue

Fair fucks, City had their game plan spot on. Their press totally stopped Arsenal from playing out. Disappointed with how passive manager and players were in response at the beginning of the second half. Needed a tweak to positioning when playing out but there wasn’t one, just kept playing into the jaws of death until the inevitable happened.

Ours offered zero ball retention nor threat, theirs the opposite. Not that theirs were brilliant, but ours were inert and devoid of energy on and off the ball

Would I have rather started Raya? Sure.
But Guardiola also picked his number two keeper and won.
Kepa, and his selection, is not the story. How City outplayed Arsenal and their lack of an answer is, in addition to how they now respond, of course.

Didn't take long for - some - Arsenal fans and neutrals to pile on individuals. Tells me that agendas will always reign supreme rather than sitting with what you actually just witnessed, which was a collective failing by every metric. Don't make it harder than it needs to be.
