In addition to the difficulty, the “not your keys, not your coins” ethos made sense when the whole point was a censorship resistant store of value/means of payment. Since that’s not the direction “crypto” is heading in, 3rd party custody isn’t philosophically inconsistent.

My experience on L1 DEX trading: You either
- get a bad price,
- see a good price but get front-runned by a flashbot,
- see a good price and get it, but pay absurd priority fees to not get front-runned.
