Main reason Grime was 140bpm (and around then Dubstep similarly) was because it was pretty close to the speed of UK Garage to the untrained ear, but it was also the default tempo that Fruityloops was set at when you loaded it up to make beats back then. Skream & I wrote a fair few bits at faster tempos purely because sometimes the sample we were using sat better on a higher tempo (we didn't really do much timestretching back then either as you had to do it outside of Fruity - so upping or lowering the tempo was easier than timestretching a texture sample). Our Black Ghosts remix for example is 146bpm. There will definitely be a LOT of Skream / Benga tunes from that time which are 136-146 bpm
