This is worth repeating: I never cared that you were gay until you started shoving it down my throat, and I never cared what color you were until you started blaming me for your problems. I never cared about your political affiliation until you started condemning me for mine. I really never even cared where you were born until you wanted to erase my history and blame my ancestors for your problems. I never even cared if your beliefs were different from mine until you said my beliefs were wrong. But now I care. My patience and tolerance are gone, and I am not alone in feeling like this. Open the doors of the Vatican and bring in the poor. Empty the Catholic Church’s coffers and feed the hungry.

The Vatican gives between $2-4 billion a year to charitable causes. Local diocese and parishes contribute around $200 billion. Catholic orders and lay organizations probably drop in another $5 billion or so. In my neck of the woods, one of our three hospital systems is Catholic. Catholics run the food bank, two men's homeless shelters, the area's only woman's shelter and only family shelter. They run the Special Olympics, a school system where 80% of kids receive some form of financial aid, and place about 60% of the areas adoptions at a cost that about 70% of the state bureaucracy. What good do you think bankrupting an organization like that is going to do?

Sola Scriptura is not what God intended. “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matt 16(18-19).

Christ alone is the rock upon which the church is built. Not Peter. Not Popes.
