It might be shocking for many to hear, but toxic radical militant feminism is actually a huge problem in China... so much so that it makes the current "western" style Karens seem tame in comparison.
The latest drama with the Snowbreak Containment Zone backlash started with the China Post collaboration selling themed stamps, letters, postcards, and related merch, which were already heavily censored for public viewing. It had no cleavage, no short skirts, and was very much in line with PG-rated artwork. But this wasn't enough for the radical feminists in China, as they still saw it as something "vulgar".
The problem of these toxic women in China is so bad, they have a name for them now... 女拳 - nuquan, which is a Chinese internet slang that literally means "female fist" and refers to the extreme militant feminist online activists.
The latest collab involves the use of "pleated skirts"... The ones with the short, pleated styles are frequently targeted as fetishizing or “objectifying” by radical feminists. It features two new characters with cheerleader motifs, who use the 'problematic' pleated skirts. It's also one of the reasons why other motifs like bikinis and bunny girl costumes are extremely rare in games from China, but abundant in games from South Korea.
Women in China, especially the radical types, have an outsized influence in China because they hold a "sellers market" imbalance where there are more men than women available for dating due to the legacy of the one-child policy. Combined with "bride prices" and men expecting to own a house before marriage, women are able to pick and choose wealthy men more easily, leading to hypergamy on steroids.
Now that divorce laws heavily favor women in China, with some reports saying that it's worse than the US. Many men in China, especially wealthy men, are opting out of marriage as they see many women as being gold diggers who exploit laws to gain wealth. There is a lot of stigma in China for "leftover women" who are unmarried women over 25-30, and these women harbor a lot of resentment against men who won't date them, with many becoming radicalized to become militant feminists, exacerbating the gender wars.
They blame games like snow break containment zone, anime culture, and other entertainment enjoyed mostly by men, as they see it as a distraction for single men. This is very much the same as the idea of Western feminist Karens destroying anything that attracts the "male gaze".
But these militant toxic feminists fail to see that male entertainment escapism is just a symptom of the broader problems of unfair gender dynamics, where women hold outsized legal advantages and men have 'everything to lose' in a marriage.
The 2025 divorce law revisions in China evened out some of the gender divide in overall "fairness", giving some rudimentary protection for men against financial ruin, but it also radicalized the militant feminists even more... it heightened gender tensions rather than resolved them, contributing to the problem of them lashing out against anything enjoyed by men.
