Madam President, your message has stirred a series of emotions in me as keeping our natural heritage clean and alive, is also the main purpose of my life. I have worked all throughout my life ( though on a small-individual level) for waste management and making a plastic free surrounding for our planet. But, at times, I feel helpless and lost when I see a lack of civic sense and also, a lack of ‘sense of belonging’ among our fellow citizens for the cleanliness and upkeep of our own natural environmental treasures. I take this opportunity to request you to please introduce a nation wide extensive program to sensitise the people for not littering around our pristine tourist destinations with plastic bottles of mineral water, cans of cold drinks, wrappers of chips, biscuits, noodles etc.. I am enclosing herewith a small video of Elephanta caves of Maharashtra to see the expanse of the damages done to the rare mangrove trees by the bed of plastics and cans which will take thousands of years to get decomposed. Till then, massive damage would have already taken place. Honourable Madam President, Elephanta caves are not the only example but, the story is same or even worse with other major places of tourist attractions like Mussoorie, Nainital, Kashmir, Uttarakhand.. the list is really long. I am hopeful to get a sure shot resolution as I am writing to the highest office of India. 🇮🇳 Jai Hind - Jai Bharat 🇮🇳 🙏🏼🙏🏼

More than seventy percent of the surface of the earth is made up of oceans, and global warming is leading to a rise in global sea levels, threatening to submerge coastal areas. The oceans and the rich variety of flora and fauna found there have suffered heavily due to different kinds of pollution. Fortunately, people living in nature’s lap have sustained traditions that can show us the way. Inhabitants of coastal areas, for example, know the language of the winds and waves of the sea. Following our ancestors, they worship the sea as God. There are two ways, I believe, to meet the challenge of protection and conservation of the environment; broader steps that can come from governments and international organisations, and smaller, local steps that we can take as citizens. The two are, of course, complementary. Let us pledge to do what we can do – individually, locally – for the sake of a better tomorrow. We owe it to our children. (2/2)
