If the club are serious about Newcastle Utd being at the top table come 2030 challenging for the big prizes, not Carabao cups, then we at least need a manager with a clear identity for his team who has actual ambition to win the top prizes Alonso or Fabregas will do for me #nufc

@delfender No, because the project has stalled and the team has stagnated because of buying restrictions and poor recruitment. The new CEO and DoF need to hit restart this Summer and Howe can rebuild. He's done it once and can do it again.

Genuine question: If Barcelona knock us out of the CL and we don't get Europe next season, would you sack Eddie? If so, who do you realistically think we could replace him with? And, do you think that same manager would've done a better job this season than Howe?

@Guesty22 Agree 100% Smacks of panic buying and, of the 4 recent signings, only Thiaw looks likely to take the club forward. The other three are no better than what we already have and, in this league, if you stand still you go backwards The new CEO and DoF need to step up this Summer!!!

I can’t believe how badly we did replacing Isak. Bought the two wrong players. Cost us dearly. Whoever scouted and thought those two would be anywhere near as effective as a Isak, got it very wrong. Needs fixing in the summer. #NUFC

@CraigHope_DM Craig, Toon are struggling resultant from poor recruitment over the last 3-4 windows. Only Thiaw seems to have the potential to move the team forward. This coming Summer will define the new CEO and DoF, not Eddie Eddie improves players and needs better quality with more potential

FT: Newcastle 1 Man City 3 Strong & fast NUFC start (midweek energy) but that faded after taking lead & City dominated remainder Osula/Elanga didn't take chance, Woltemade midfield experiment is surely reaching expiry (especially against top teams) & it's clear a team without spine of Burn, Joelinton & Gordon lacks the combination of steel, aggression & energy they provide A poor night on the whole for NUFC, even if City were impressive after going behind

@Magpie24_7 Anywhere, everywhere. This season has been affected by an inability to cope with increased fixtures and the emphasis must be on improving the number of "elite" players throughout the squad

Craig Hope reports that Newcastle are eyeing a busy summer rebuild, with the number of potential incomings starting at six and going as high as possibly eight! If we are to sign up to 8 where would be the positions you would look to target? 🤔 #NUFC #NUFCNews #Newcastle #EPL

@CharIieBennett Personally, Charlie, I am yet to see Wissa as a No.9 work vs anyone since he put a black and white shirt on! I'm hoping the pace and interchangeability of our front three unsettles their back four.

On the line-up - fair play on dropping Nick Pope. Accountability. Personally, as much as I have questioned his signing, I’d have started Yoane Wissa. I’m yet to see Gordon as a No.9 work vs meaningful opposition. Let’s hope I am proven wrong tonight. #NUFC

A lot of talk that we will line up like this against Qarabag 🇦🇿 (4-3-3): Ramsdale; Trippier, Botman, Burn, Murphy; Willock, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Osula, Barnes. Would you be happy with that? 🤔 Would you give Shahar a go? Maybe Wissa? #NUFC #NUFCNews #Newcastle #EPL

🚨 Newcastle thought they'd equalised once again but Dan Burn's header was ruled out, despite the defender being pushed into an offside position by a Man City player. Should a penalty be awarded in situations like this? 🤔

@Magpie24_7 I loved and was very excited with the formation Eddie played at Baku with Nick playing deep with the pace of Barnes, Elanga and Gordon playing in front of him and terrorising the Qarabag defence!! Would like you see it against Man City.

🔄 Are we witnessing a 'Joelinton transformation' all over again with Nick Woltemade? 🤔 🇩🇪 When we shattered our transfer record to bring the 6ft 6" German from VfB Stuttgart in the summer, he arrived as a striker. But just like Big Joe, Woltemade’s early days at St James' Park are suggesting his future might actually lie in the engine room. 🎯 Woltemade came in to lead the line, but his natural instincts tell a different story. Despite his towering frame, he isn’t just a typical target man. He’s a player who craves the ball at his feet, often dropping deep into the 'number 10' pocket to link play. This mirrors exactly what we saw with Joelinton before Eddie Howe’s tactical masterstroke—a player with the physical stature of a forward but the technical soul of a playmaker or midfielder. 🏁 Standing at 198cm tall, you’d expect him to just be an aerial threat. However, his nickname "Wolte-Messi" exists for a reason. His close control and dribbling in tight spaces are brilliant. If his goal-scoring output remains steady but not prolific—he's currently sitting on 7 goals in 23 appearances—the temptation for Howe to drop him into a box-to-box "Number 8" role becomes almost impossible to ignore! 🇧🇷 Like Joelinton, Woltemade has the recovery pace and frame to bully Premier League midfielders. He also sees passes that traditional strikers often miss. Moving him deeper allows Newcastle to play a more clinical finisher up top while keeping Woltemade’s ball-carrying ability on the pitch. 🍿 We’ve seen this movie before, and it ended with Joelinton becoming one of the best midfielders in the league! Is history about to repeat itself with our German giant? 🤔 What do you think? Is Woltemade a future midfield powerhouse, or should we keep him leading the line? Let us know in the comments! 👇 #NUFC #NewcastleUnited #NickWoltemade #Joelinton #EPL #ToonArmy #Magpie247

@CharIieBennett The best strikers are selfish, determined and totally focused on scoring goals and setting records. Gordon has the chance of scoring more next week and could put himself in the frame for the Golden Boot and setting an NUFC record for CL goals

Only Newcastle could record their biggest CL win ever... to then have the post-match talk centre around penaltygate. 😅 I would have given it to Woltemade but, ultimately, it doesn't matter. Fair play to this crazy club for always finding new ways to make me chuckle. #NUFC

@thetoonreview If Gordon gets another three or four next week he could be in with a shout for the Golden Boot. Good strikers are selfish and focussed so I can totally understand where he is coming from. Also wants to be a NUFC record holder.

Nah, I'm fully with Anthony Gordon there. He's the penalty taker (an absolutely brilliant one), he gets judged on goals, fully entitled to take it. I'd be disappointed if he stepped aside tbh

@LukeEdwardsTele No Luke, just the opposite! The standard of referring is as it is because of VAR. Yesterdays game was a clear indication that officials are totally abdicating their responsibilities by deferring decisions to VAR. They are now totally incapable of doing their jobs properly!!

This is the thing. Love it or hate it, we need VAR in football because the referees who are supposed to be elite are doing stuff like this regularly. It’s incomprehensible how that was not given as a penalty. Embarrassing.

The absolute worst thing about this decision (probably the worst I’ve ever seen) is that it’s going to make so many people go “see, this is why we have VAR” which is still the worst thing to have happened to this sport. But this is probably the worst decision I’ve ever seen. So much so that when I first saw this back, I thought the error they were talking about was missing if it was handball. NOT where it actually happened?! 🤦🏻‍♂️

🗣️Wayne Rooney on BBC: "That decision is one of the worst decisions I have ever seen in football because at no stage was Digne out of the penalty box."
