A television channel has admitted an error in its earlier reporting on the declared assets of Minister K.D. Lalkantha, saying previously published figures were the result of a calculation mistake. In a correction issued on Saturday, the channel said an earlier report had incorrectly stated that the minister’s securities were worth Rs. 38.39 crore and that his total gross assets exceeded Rs. 46 crore. The outlet said the correct value of the declared securities should have been approximately Rs. 143,475, while the total gross value of the assets declared by K.D. Lalkantha was around Rs. 8 crore. The channel said the correction followed a legal notice sent by the minister’s lawyer, who informed the broadcaster that the previously reported securities value and total asset figures were inaccurate. It also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to K.D. Lalkantha and said the correction was being issued under the media’s right to rectify errors. Earlier, K.D. Lalkantha had issued a legal notice against Asia Broadcasting Corporation (Private) Limited, alleging that a report aired on April 16 had misrepresented his 2025 assets and liabilities declaration. The notice claimed figures had been exaggerated, including the reported value of shares held in his daughter’s name, which the minister said were worth around Rs. 143,000 and not hundreds of millions of rupees as stated in the report. The minister sought Rs. 10 billion in damages and warned of legal action if the demand was not met. (Newswire)

The height of heightism. Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody dismissed an opposition call to probe the controversial purchase of substandard coal, citing the proverb “කොට හුඹහාව, කොට මිනිහා” — beware, don't trust a small anthill or a short man. @anuradisanayake @BimalRathnayake

Why mess with @1990SuwaSeriya name and soul? It’s saved countless lives as SL’s MOST efficient public service! They’ve already swapped the board, now they’re gutting its purpose! Hands off our lifeline! 🚑🔥 #SaveSuwaseriya #lka

As MP & Chairman of CoPF, I pressed the visiting IMF delegation on two critical issues threatening SL’s economy: 1️⃣ Vehicle import taxes drove revenue this year due to pent-up demand, but MoF admits imports will drop. Are IMF & gov exploring sustainable revenue alternatives to avoid burdening businesses? 2️⃣ Reversal of the CEB Reform Act by this Govt blocks private investment in electricity. With IMF’s cost-reflective pricing, rising demand will hike costs for SMEs, families & all Sri Lankans, stalling growth. We need policies that empower our private sector & secure fiscal stability. Share your thoughts—what solutions should SL pursue? 💬 #IMFSriLanka #EconomicReform #SJB #PublicFinance #CEBReform #SriLankaEconomy

An individual travelling from Colombo to Welimada who fell asleep in the bus had missed the destination and alighted from the bus at an unknown area, only to be severely assaulted by the villagers who mistook him for a robber. Having seen the video footage of him being assaulted released to social media, he had committed suicide. It was on Sunday the 31st of August 2025 that I entered Kings Hospital Colombo for an important check up! By Tuesday the 2nd September, it had tuned this important check up to a desperate situation which was almost bordering life and death for me. It was beyond our wildest expectations ( Family and Mine) though this story is not about what I went through and came out of it through a series of pure miracles when the doctors virtually thought otherwise. The amazing turn of events have to be described elsewhere. It was a story which was to do with TRIPLE VESSEL DISEASE and will be surely related later. For the people reading this to understand the danger and gravity of the case, you are free to do an internet search to get a good idea of what I am talking about. But my story here is about the amazing care of the hospital staff that started with the respected Cardiologist Dr. Kishan De Silva and completed by Cardiologist Dr. Mithra Kumar! In between I was in awe of the manner the staff of first, the 3rd floor and then the 2nd floor and the CCU and finally the 2nd floor again looked after me and showed me and showered me with not just care but amazing love too. At a time when one almost reaches the level of desperation to have genuine human angels surrounding you is a nothing short of a miracle and the favour of God. That was exactly what I and my family experienced at Kings Hospital Colombo and this is to say a genuine thank you to all who are too numerous to mention but will always be etched in our minds. You were a credit to your institution and will never be forgotten. Thank you to all of you and may the God I worship and serve bless you immensely.

While Sri Lanka was broke & literally in negotiations to restructure our loans, the President felt entitled enough to spend some significant part of 16 Million bucks on a two-day trip? And even some members of my party are defending this nonsense?

Glad our #USTarriffs are at 20% so we can continue to be regionally competitive. Credit goes to all who worked on it on our #SriLanka side (seen and unseen) and appreciation to @USTradeRep for understanding our limitations. Let’s now seriously work on breaking down the walls around us and building bridges to the world!
