Sri Lanka’s navy is on a roll. After seizing over 5,000 sachets of smuggled shampoo, it swooped yesterday on allegedly illegally stored liquor in Mullaittivu. The law says a person may possess up to 7.5 litres of arrack and 80 litres of foreign liquor without an excise permit.

Minister @NalindaJay says cabinet has asked the Justice Ministry to make recommendations on whether to extend the retirement age of judges. The move to raise the retirement age is seen as a clear attempt to prevent a staunch Rajapaksa-loyalist judge from becoming CJ. යස වැඩේ

Believe it or not: Sri Lanka Navy’s headline news is shampoo smuggling. Sailors seized 5,386 sachets of Indian shampoo off Talaimannar yesterday and handed them to police. Tough times when even your haircare has a black market in what was earlier a grey area.

Electric tagging isn’t magic solution and has negative impacts as well. Govt should read prison report of Human Rights Commission of SL which has detailed recommendations on all aspects of reform that are required instead of knee jerk populist reactions hrcsl.lk/wp-content/upl…

Surely there are eminent figures at the private bar who could be elevated to the SC to serve as CJ. An eminent PC who has returned from Australia may fit the bill.

Protests over raising the retirement age of superior court judges are partly linked to the imminent arrest of @GotabayaR . They are banking on @YKodagoda becoming Chief Justice and saving GR, as he did in Oct 2019 (425/19). Parinda has emerged as the new CJ candidate if 65 stays
