Situated along the busy Thika Superhighway, the Witeithie Modern Market Complex in Juja Sub-county, Kiambu County is nearing completion, set to transform informal trade into a structured, dignified and efficient enterprise. Designed to accommodate over 4,000 small-scale traders currently operating from the open air, the multi-level facility features organized stalls and shops, cold storage for perishable produce and integrated ICT and business hubs to support digital commerce. Modern utilities including improved drainage, sanitation systems, quality ablution blocks and a food court are complemented by social amenities such as a crèche and a rooftop recreational space. The project has generated jobs during construction and is expected to unlock new economic opportunities upon completion, enhancing incomes, reducing post-harvest losses and stimulating local enterprise along this key economic corridor. The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has played a pivotal role in fostering an enabling environment for delivery, strengthening coordination at the grassroots and ensuring the project aligns with broader efforts to promote secure, well-managed and economically vibrant communities.

Data is the new goldmine and as Kenya advances towards a first-world economy, the Digital Superhighway; one of the key pillars of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), is rapidly expanding opportunities within the digital space. The Ndumberi Jitume Digital Hub in Kiambu Town Constituency, Kiambu County, established under the Jitume Digital Program and powered by Konza Technopolis in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MICDE) and the ICT Authority (ICTA), is a strategic investment in this transformation. Equipped with 80 fully functional computers, the Centre is already in its third cohort, having trained over 1,500 youth, many of whom have secured dignified, income-generating opportunities, offering a meaningful alternative to crime, substance and drug abuse, social vices that have long plagued the County and the larger Central Kenya Region. It offers free, walk-in access to digital skills training aligned with the Ajira curriculum, covering areas such as graphic design, digital marketing, social media management, web development, forex trading, transcription, video editing, financial literacy and digipreneurship. Through these structured modules, the Centre is intentionally designed to move young people from, 'learners to earners,' supported by reliable broadband connectivity and modern digital infrastructure. To safeguard this growing digital ecosystem, the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is reinforcing these efforts through robust cybersecurity frameworks that monitor, prevent and deter cybercrime and other online threats, ensuring a safe and secure environment for Kenya's digital economy to thrive.

The ongoing construction of the Rironi–Mau Summit road, a key transport corridor, is improving the movement of people and goods, thereby unlocking new economic opportunities across the country. Western Kenya is among the major beneficiaries of this expansion. The long-standing traffic congestion that has affected travel to and from the region, particularly during peak periods, will soon be a thing of the past. Along the route, the project is already generating employment for contractors, suppliers and surrounding communities, while also opening up new opportunities for trade, tourism and investment.

Held an engagement with residents of Kamrongo in Kisumu East as part of a working Labour Day, reviewing ongoing National Government development projects. Top among them is the Kibos–Chiga–Rabuor road, being implemented jointly by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), which is set to enhance connectivity and unlock economic opportunities in the area. I appreciated the residents for their close working relationship with the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) in driving the Government's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The meeting provided an opportunity to update the community on progress, receive feedback and reaffirm our commitment to delivering impactful infrastructure that improves livelihoods.

Construction of the Chogoria ESP Market in Tharaka-Nithi County, which began in August 2024 and is now 87% complete, is already providing a strong boost to the local economy. The project has stimulated trade and livelihoods, injecting income into surrounding communities while laying the foundation for a modern marketplace. Once complete, the market will empower small scale vendors and local hustlers through access to organized trading spaces, improved storage facilities and safer, more dignified working environments. Even at this stage, the project has created jobs for local youth and expanded opportunities for suppliers, transporters and service providers benefiting from increased demand. The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration continues to coordinate local administration and support a safe and orderly environment for both construction activities and future market operations.

Under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the government is creating opportunities for local livelihoods to expand, commerce to flourish and communities to reclaim economic dignity. Construction of the Kimbimbi ESP Market in Kirinyaga County which started in June 2024 as part of this transformative agenda, is approaching completion. Like other ESP markets, Kimbimbi will host traders in a modern, well-organized space and include a cold storage facility to reduce post-harvest losses, sanitation facilities, a crèche for lactating mothers, an onsite restaurant, a social hall and an ICT hub to empower youth with digital skills and e-commerce opportunities. The project has created jobs during construction and is set to boost the local economy by improving market access and supporting sustainable income generation. The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is working with local authorities to coordinate community engagement, ensuring the market becomes a vibrant and secure hub for trade and innovation.

The Mukarara ESP Market in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County, is a flagship project under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), designed to modernize trade and empower local communities. Construction is now at 90%, with only terrazzo flooring remaining. The market will host approximately 200 traders and features modern amenities including a cold storage facility to reduce post-harvest losses, a social hall, sanitation facilities, a crèche for lactating mothers, an onsite restaurant and an ICT hub to equip youth with digital skills and e-commerce opportunities. Reliable water supply, waste management systems and enhanced lighting further ensure a safe and functional trading environment. The project has generated significant employment during construction, engaging both skilled and unskilled workers, and once operational, it will boost the local economy by improving market access, increasing incomes for farmers and creating long-term business opportunities. To safeguard smooth implementation, the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is working with local leaders to coordinate community engagement and ensure orderly market operations.

Often referred to as, 'Nairobi's bedroom,' Kiambu Town and the wider Kiambu County serve as a key residential hub for thousands who work in the Capital. The Kiambu Affordable Housing Project, under the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), directly responds to this growing demand by delivering decent, accessible housing closer to places of work, easing urban pressure on Nairobi while enhancing quality of life. Commenced in October 2025, the project spans 14 blocks and will deliver 1,977 housing units across studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom categories, distributed under Social, Affordable and Market-Rate segments. Complementary amenities include 39 shops, a kindergarten, clubhouse, garbage receptacle, underground water tank and a power house, creating a self-sustaining, community-centered living environment. The project is a significant economic driver, sustaining an average workforce of 200 people and stimulating local enterprise through supply chains and retail opportunities, thereby injecting income into households and boosting the local economy. To support smooth implementation, the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is coordinating multi-agency ground operations to secure construction zones, streamline local administrative support and foster community engagement.
