If there is something missing in the post mortem of Tuesday’s primary election is the Chicago Teachers Union extending its losing streak. Yesterday, 7 of 13 CTU-backed candidates lost their primary campaigns for office. This follows Eileen O’Neill Burke overcoming CTU backed Clayton Harris, the defeat of the CTU backed referendum to raise the Real Estate Transfer Tax and the 2024 election for the first 10 elected Board of Education seats that saw CTU lose six of nine competitive races. The CTU spending in BOE races was staggering: 12 CTU affiliated groups spent $2.8 million on BOE candidates, of which $2.1 million – an astounding 75 percent – went to losing candidates. CTU support is handicapping office seekers as 55 percent say they’re less inclined to vote for a candidate who has accepted campaign donations from CTU. Longtime CTU ally Toni Preckwinkle did not even seek CTU endorsement and declined to say she would again back their mayor and former employee Brandon Johnson for reelection. This gives hope that the upcoming school board elections can break the destructive CTU stranglehold over the public schools that are denying families quality schools and driving up property taxes.

Stewart's take: Rogan is a curious comic who fell into something enormous. Not a right-wing operative. Not a Bannon project. Just a guy with opinions all over the map whose aesthetic doesn't fit the left's comfort zone. I have some ability to communicate. I fact-check. I try to be honest even when the facts complicate the narrative I'd prefer. So I started sharing what I was finding. That was a couple years ago. My page on Facebook is now about to hit 300,000 followers and is still growing, and I'm seeing a sudden surge of stickiness to my posts on X. What I'm sharing is starting to find an audience. I'm not claiming to be the answer to anything. But Stewart's point lands for me personally: if you think the information environment is broken, get in it and fix it.
