went down a rabbithole of their tiktoks & gist is they did an MA in uk & resent europe bc they felt talked down to for being american, but in another video said other americans weren’t talked down to, so safe to assume it was actually on account of their insufferable personality
.@itwasjustbanter

their right-wingers barely comprehend object permanence and their left-wingers are some of the most insufferable people on planet earth. on all sides that country is cooked beyond belief.

Anyone else notice their Claude is performing far worse? I input the same prompt every morning and the decay in quality response is very jarring.

@chalmermagne The £2.5bn was a fantasy figure that the previous gov’t never got into a funding envelope. It got scaled back to £1bn last year in the SR/UKRI funding process, and this announcement is £1bn in ‘new’ money on top of that.

Considering that the 2023 National Quantum Strategy committed to £2.5 billion of investment, I'm curious if this is actually new money or just the government media machine reannouncing it in the hope of a good headline.
Liz Kendall@leicesterliz

We’re investing up to £2billion to cement the UK’s place as a world-leader in Quantum and to ensure this technology drives the jobs, growth and innovations of the future. theguardian.com/technology/202…

@Will___lloyd @pauljor74327021 He drank less than most ministers and Conservative MPs in the more restrained 2010s too. He wasn’t one for Strangers/pubs/SW1 social scene outside of moments where it was a political necessity.

@pauljor74327021 He just was never that much of a drinker according to these books - the standard he was being judged against is 90s/noughties Fleet Street/Westminster

@theobertram The substantive similarity with Pincher is that the story exposes the PM's greatest weakness and drags it out in a lurid, attention-grabbing way. For Johnson it was a disregard for standards and honesty that become intolerable. For Starmer it is his lack of political judgement.

The superficial similarity with the Pincher case is that the PM hired someone despite warnings. However there are clear differences: Boris had all the information about Pincher & lied about that fact. As it stands, that is not the case for Starmer or Morgan regarding Mandelson.

@DanNeidle @bo_jolais You know how elasticity curves and diminishing marginal utility works Dan! It economically is not the same, and there's a perfectly fine point to make about the UK's tax system without suggesting it is.

Answer this honestly. Would you and your family move to Dubai for five years if someone paid you £3bn?

@Tom_Westgarth15 Great read! Our politics being accessible to (and dominated by) generalists seems to be a slight inoculation against some of the legal particularities of Wang's lawyerly society. Unfortunately offset by the 'Powerpoint Britain' pitfalls of stakeholder consulting and compliance

Since the 1970s, the share of UK MPs that were engineers has fallen from 5% to around 1% today. Legal representation has remained relatively robust, although dropping over the Thatcher-Major period.

Sun's out. Post-work 5k. Arrive home to the wife's freshly cooked udon carbonara. Wash it down with an ice-cold Asahi. Premier League build-up on the telly. Life is good.

Shocked to discover that all the research saying non-doms are leaving in droves — commissioned and promoted by non-dom lobbying groups — turned out to be complete nonsense.
