Year 6 really enjoyed creating these Tim Burton-style reading portraits this afternoon. It provided a fantastic opportunity to talk about some of their favourite books and make lots of recommendations to each other. Thank you to @MarieZarro97723 for sharing.

Let me tell you why Cllrs telling people to use libraries or lose them is deeply flawed; Decades of cuts have left many libraries barely open or staffed or stocked. Quantitive indicators don’t show the real worth/use. Many well used libraries have been closed. #savelibraries

World Book Day is over, but keep sharing stories! "When children are read to, their negative ideas about reading disappear. . . It feels like a treat, not a task." Alison David @HarperCollinsCh explores the benefits of storytime at home & school: readingzone.com/news/is-storyt…

“The decline in library staffing across England is one of the most damaging findings of UNISON’s research - between 2010 & 2024, staffing levels fell by 47% at the 132 authorities in England - a loss of 8,406 full-time equivalent posts.” Devastating 😔

Isn’t the best way to encourage a love of books and reading to share stories with children, whether that can read or not? My class raid the book box and put books on my desk that they want me to read. Often the are books we’ve read many times.
