Here's the thing Kids don't appreciate anything about good storytelling. They do not understand the work that went into it. They do not understand why it's so cool that Aragorn actually broke his toe in that one scene. Why certain plot beats hit and others miss. BUT THEY'LL STILL GET IT THEY'LL REMEMBER They'll look back at scenes they loved and wonder what made them work so well. They'll understand how magical it is that Aragorn broke his toe in a scene that required him to scream in pain. They'll look back at the One Ring and understand why it was so tempting. You don't make good cinema for kids as kids, you make it for when they start to understand. Have you ever looked up reactions to kids seeing Darth Vader say "I am your father" for the first time? It's incredible. Their jaws drop, they gasp, some even go 'no' along with Luke. They understand that this is a big and important moment. WHY it works is something they don't get yet. But they will. I know because this happened to me as a kid with the classic Disney films. You don't get why everything is in place the way it is when you're seeing it as a kid. But you know quality when you see it. It holds your attention in a way that the general childish slop only meant to hold your attention doesn't. And when you think about it later, you understand the problems, and you understand where it works and why.

@MizusPuddle I find the "oh god they made an Egyptian Lucario" complaint so weird because Palworld already made an Egyptian Lucario with Anubis. They did the dog god, now they do the cat god. Simple as.

The funniest part about Palworld haters is they have 0 knowledge of literally anything that isn't Nintendo. Like yes, Sekhmet is clearly a copy of the totally original character Ankha (who I love btw) and not the Egyptian God Sekhmet. People try and bring up that almost every pokemon design is based on something else not to make pokemon look derivative(even though it is) but because Nintendo fans genuinely don't know stuff existed before Nintendo.

@MizusPuddle Is it more likely that Palworld devs were organically inspired by ancient Egyptian dieties or that they saw that feminized anthropomorphic mammals from Nintendo seem to garner alot of fans and attention. Let's all put our thinking caps on 🤔🤔

I can't name another profession other than "artists" that can this comfortably and brazenly demand "patience" from customers in a transactional work relationship. Creative work is not an excuse for lack of professionalism. It's a job just like anything else. If you agreed to get paid to deliver, you do it. Get off that high horse. Society's kneejerk virtue signaling of treating "artists" like some sacred beings that are beyond reproach is honestly sickening. I think people need to realize that your respect for art itself does NOT mean that you need to create a special privileged class in the workforce that you can't criticize. If you ever complained to an employee of anything or contacted customer service, you should be comfortable doing the same to artists and hold their services to acceptable standards.

After 2 hours and 20 minutes, I finished Mixtape and I fucking hated it. Thanks. And I’m using the term “game” extremely loosely here, because this is barely a game and honestly shouldn’t even qualify as one. You can feel that the people behind it are 40-year-olds still coping with being bullied in high school by living vicariously through these characters. It’s basically one of those interactive movies you’d get in a cereal box and “play” with your TV remote. The “gameplay” mostly consists of pushing the left stick forward or holding W. That’s it. There are QTEs, except they’re not quick, not timed, and barely even events. They’re just random optional button prompts thrown in to make it feel more “gamey” than it actually is. And the writing is fucking abysmal. Not because the characters are teens and therefore inherently cringe, but because you can tell it’s written by middle-aged people cosplaying as teenagers who think being obnoxious and a public nuisance is somehow “rad.” I’d say it was painful to play, but that would imply I actually played something. It was painful to watch. This should’ve been a low-budget animated movie five people watched once on a streaming service and immediately forgot about. “10s across the board” and “GOTY,” my ass. If you genuinely think this thing belongs in the same category as actual games, you’re delusional. You probably also think CoComelon is peak entertainment. The only redeeming quality is the soundtrack, and that’s because 99% of the music was made by actual talented artists and bands instead of the people responsible for this disaster. The writing sucked. The animation sucked. The story barely made sense. The characters were insufferable, and I didn’t care about a single one of them, except Slater, because he’s literally just my fiancé.

i’m glad people like it. i’m happy for them. but I personally have ALWAYS loathed the “games as movies” concept. I am a movie person. Movies are my preferred medium for narrative expression. somewhere along the way, people who failed as filmmakers were enabled to take their failed film ideas and convert them into mediocre narrative driven games and force feed them to people who overuse words like “masterpiece” to describe things that gave them even marginal levels of emotional resonance. i grew up with jrpgs, so it would be dishonest of me to say I wasn’t moved by the writing in many of the square games I engaged with throughout my life. but that format was more like a novel with actual robust gameplay wrapped around it, often forcing you to put in at least some level of work in order to advance the story. now we’ve reached a point where instead we’ve regressed to games having less interactive depth than the original super mario brothers for the express purpose of not letting gameplay get in the way of letting the story unfold, because that’s really the entire point of the “game”. and that’s everything wrong with this stupid trend inside the medium.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of intelligence accompanying the inability to distinguish fiction and reality, that also means they are quite loud. Writing evil is a matter of simply knowing the difference. Unless youre really going to die on the hill every mystery novel writer who writes serial killers is a serial killer, that the makers of pokemon want to genocide ugly and poor people…dont get me started on Alien, star wars, and others… Oh god this person cant even handle historical fables and fairytales. Low Iq, unintelligent freak. Stop engaging with fiction. You arent mature enough for it.
