An Auntie Anne’s original pretzel cost about $3.50 in 2009. Today it’s $7.29. The pretzel tracked inflation almost perfectly. The pretzel is accidentally the most honest inflation tracker in America. It’s priced in flour, sugar, labor, commercial rent, and energy. Every cost that went up in 17 years is baked into that $7.29. One mall receipt tells you more about the economy than most dashboards. Now do the rest. Gas in 2009 averaged $2.35 a gallon. Today it’s $3.81. Up 62%. The median U.S. home sold for $172,000 in 2009. The latest FRED data has it at $405,300. Up 136%. Average public university tuition went from about $7,000 to $12,000. Up 71%. Health insurance premiums for a family of four went from $13,000 to over $24,000. Up 85%. Every price in the economy moved. The federal minimum wage of $7.25 was set on July 24, 2009. It has not changed once in 6,088 days. $7.25 in 2009 had the purchasing power of $10.47 today. That’s a 30% silent pay cut delivered one year at a time, while the number on the check never moved. In 2009, $7.25 bought two Auntie Anne’s pretzels. In 2026, it doesn’t buy one. The dollar lost 30% of its value. The pretzel adjusted. The wage didn’t.
daz@MetamateDaz

The minimum wage in Pennsylvania is $7.25 an hour. A regular Auntie Anne’s soft pretzel at the mall is $7.29. Imagine telling someone an hour of their time is worth less than a pretzel.

Every dollar earned below $184,500 a year has a Social Security tax of 12.4%. Everything after that cap is exempt. If we lift this cap on the wealthiest earners, Social Security would be fully funded till 2070. The cap should not exist.
ABC News@ABC

The trust funds for Social Security and Medicaid will run out of money in as little as 8 years, a shorter time frame than previously estimated, according to a report issued Wednesday by the programs' trustees. abcnews.link/r5kTy1r

Minimum wage should be varied and locked to House districts. The amount it pays should be related to a basket of goods not unlike how the CPI is calculated. For example, how much it costs to afford 50% of a 2 bedroom apartment, student loans, food, basic transportation, etc. Why? Because that's what a JOB is for--living. If a company is unwilling or unable to pay a LIVING WAGE, then it can die in a fire and be replaced by one that can.

@MetamateDaz If that's too much, then backtrack minimum wage to 1971 so it adjusts with the real rate of inflation. That would put minimum wage at $90.40/hr.

@MetamateDaz Lock minimum wage to the 0.039 oz of gold it historically afforded before we left the gold standard. Do that and we'd have a middle class as Americans become wealthy again. The stock market would get clobbered though as wealth is given to the rank and file workers.

@dangitman50 @MetamateDaz The entire point of a job is to provide for the basic necessities of life. A living wage if you will. IMO if a job doesn't afford a basic barebones life, then it doesn't need to exist.

@MetamateDaz Well, for starters, that pretzel is WAY overpriced. Second, some people are simply not worth much, if anything, when they haven't put in the effort to learn useful skills or developed a worth ethic enough to be worth more.

@UtahFlatRanger All of that and marry minimum wage to 0.039oz of gold per hour it used to afford before we left the gold standard. Hint: the $1.60 minimum wage in 1970 was equivalent of making $205 an hour today.

You can't really live off of $18 a hour. At $24 a hour, you sorta kinda can if you work atleast 10 hours of overtime. If you want to save a reasonable amount of money you need to work 60-75 hours a week which is asinine. Deport, Stop importing foreign labor, Abolish the H1B program.

@Mashall788 @aus_pill Now let's adjust for the gold standard. Minimum wage in 1971 was $1.60/hr, or 0.039 oz of gold per hour. Today minimum wage should be about $205/hr to afford that same 0.039 oz of gold per hour. That's MINIMUM WAGE. That is how much we've been robbed.

@aus_pill Welders are literally one of the highest paying jobs on the market right now. Some start out at around 120k a year. Only issue is your apprenticeship which you aren’t paid, but for welding that only lasts a few months. Underwater welders can easily make 600k a year

@Chizitere_xyz Infidelity like this should carry the death penalty IMO. This is biblical. If that's too harsh, then at minimum women who commit paternity fraud should receive 2 years in prison for every year they defrauded the man in question, plus heathy fiscal restitution.

I’ve known my friend Dave since college. He was the kind of guy who built his entire existence around being a provider. He worked grueling fifty-hour weeks, bought a quiet house in the suburbs, and made his six-year-old son, Leo, the absolute center of his universe. Dave was the dad who spent his weekends teaching the kid how to ride a bike and his evenings reading bedtime stories. To everyone looking in, he was the blueprint of a good father. Then came a routine medical scare that tore his reality down to the studs. Leo had a severe allergic reaction that required an emergency room visit and a full blood panel. Dave was sitting in a sterile hospital chair, exhausted but relieved the boy was okay, when the attending physician handed him the chart. The doctor casually pointed out the blood types. Dave is O-negative. His wife is O-negative. Leo is A-positive. It is biologically impossible. In the quiet hum of that hospital room, six years of first steps, scraped knees, and unconditional, absolute love were instantly overshadowed by the most devastating lie a man can experience. When Dave confronted his wife that evening, the thing that permanently broke something inside him wasn't just the betrayal, it was her chilling lack of remorse. She simply stared back at him, her defenses raised, and weaponized his own character against him. "You're the only dad he knows," she told him coldly. "If you leave, you're abandoning your son." She had looked him in the eye in the delivery room, watched him cry tears of pure joy, and allowed him to legally and financially bind his entire life to another man’s child. She had stolen his youth, his labor, and his absolute capacity to trust. But the true, suffocating nightmare began when Dave walked into family court, believing the justice system would protect a man who had been subjected to a six-year fraud. He stood before the judge with undeniable DNA evidence, expecting the law to sever his legal obligations to a deception he never consented to. Instead, the family court system looked at a shattered man and saw only a utility. Under the ruthless application of "presumed father" laws, the judge ruled that because Dave had acted as the financial provider for six years, he was legally obligated to continue. It was deemed in the "best interest of the child." The biological father, the man who actually shared the DNA, remained completely anonymous and entirely free of consequence. Today, Dave lives in a quiet, empty apartment. Every single month, a massive percentage of his paycheck is legally garnished by the state to fund the lifestyle of the woman who orchestrated the ultimate destruction of his life.

A company had unlimited PTO for all employees. An employee had an emergency and took PTO to attend to her son in hospital. Her manager approved it. While she was on PTO, the CEO called her the following day. “We have an urgent project,” said the CEO. “I can’t leave my son alone in the hospital. I’m a single parent,” she replied. The CEO ordered her to return to work immediately or risk losing her job. The mother chose to stay with her son. After three days in the hospital, she reported back to work. The CEO handed her a termination letter. Unlimited PTO without protection isn’t a benefit—it’s a lie dressed up as policy.

@BlackDumpling I don't even think this is about him wanting a virgin, necessary. Or even her body. It's about him having to abide by some standard, while some random dude gets to smash on day 1. He thought he was with a girl that have standards, and he found out she had none.

One of the benefits of being a virgin is reading stories like this and instantly understanding how cruelly sadistic what she did was. She knew what she was doing every step of the way and she can feign stupidity or ignorance as she likes but she knew. There are men who cherish that aspect of you, who want to share that aspect of you and they are willing to make the commitment because of how important it is to them. Modern society has tried to warp desiring a virgin as though it were some form of perversion but I have never once heard a woman being denigrated for wanting an experienced man. Even when he has the head of a fkng bull. So, men, it's okay to prefer and desire virginal women and it's perfectly okay to express that openly. And know that any woman who spits on you for your preferences does so because she doesn't meet them.
