@kendrictonn I, for note, loved BG3 and the companions all grew on me. But this comment in particular made me realize, "Oh, yes, that would have been much better." Every wildcard group needs a straight man.

All this BG3 discussion makes me want to recommit to my stance that the game would have benefitted enormously from 1-2 companions who were boring D&D archetypes. Perhaps a dwarf with a Scottish accent who likes quality metalwork & ale and is racist against elves?

@dictxtor_ Ye, played pirated Kain: Blood Omen where cinematics and saving didn't work, and played Baldurs Gate 2 while initially barely knowing any English. Used to play Kain for many hours until poison enemies appear and then die, because I didn't understand antidote...

BG3 is an awesome game, but the writing definitely does suffer from Millenial Writer Syndrome where nearly every character is so very damaged and quirky and just looking for that found family dynamic that the writer has only truly experienced via Stardew Valley.

@AsserMalkki @LilBramwell @MrOvis_ Playing as Gale you only have Minsc, which I never even encountered, as possible human companion if counting Wyll as demon. In BG2 you had 9 humans for comparison.

@LilBramwell @RealPerson1337 @MrOvis_ I assumed as much as well, but that leaves 6 other companions who consists of humans, elves, and half-elves, which was the point I was trying to make for him.

@ricardomesquits @MrOvis_ Haven't played many recent RPGs, but I like all characters in Expedition 33 while very few in BG3. It's not like it's impossible to write good characters in current year.

@MrOvis_ As someone who's been playing D&D for over 20 years, my biggest complaint about the companions is that like 50% of them are either human or some flavor of elf.

@41stmillennium @ClawsOfCrab @Nerdcognito The thing is the characters were a huge part of BG2, even annoying Anomen was interesting in his own way. The only reason I could play BG3 was thanks to multiplayer.
