@CedarPosts We had ALPR & cameras on all major thoroughfares 13+ years ago. The core of this is not new. It helped solve a hell of a lot of crimes. 😎

The uproar over Flock Cameras is pretty comical. Every major intersection in Charlotte has cameras. Your face is scanned analyzed and stored every time you check out at Harris Teeter Walmart and Lowe’s. At the airport your image is photographed 100s of times. Every 5th car on the road is recording your image many with enough clarity to read the numbers on the license renewal sticker. The only thing Flock will do is cross reference the 1,000s of other images of you recorded daily.

@DrewDiMeglio @andrew_dunn applying individual Moralism to institutions, the idea of permanently “defiled” institutions, is so absurd. to them institutions are sin-eaters, so individual perpetrators can move on to the next institution, unscathed. like loading debts onto an LLC & filing for bankruptcy.

@andrew_dunn It’s important to differentiate between merited criticism of institutions and blame shifting, both exist. I try to look at the facts of an issue individually, ie: just because an institution made an error previously doesn’t mean a future criticism is automatically merited

The biggest problem I have with postliberalism is its insistence on an external locus of control - blaming "the system" for everyone's problems and denying individual agency. It's the same mindset that the Democratic Socialists have, just a slightly different villain.

An external locus of control is so damaging to the human spirit and must be rejected - even if it is actually true. It's like Pascal's Wager, which says that humans are betting their life on whether God exists or not so it's rational to believe in God. If you're right, you go to Heaven. If you're wrong, there's no downside. Same goes for agency. If you believe you have agency and you are right, you have the chance to succeed in life. If you're wrong, and you actually have no control over your outcomes, you're none the worse.

@andrew_dunn you’re also exactly correct about Pascal’s wager, & this is coming from a philosophical agnostic. it’s the reason why communities with even a bit of spiritual or religious commitment are so resilient in the long term, compared to strictly secular institutions + communities.

@Eldrode @3YearLetterman Yea. Panhandle is definitely. The rest, not so much. I grew up in South Florida. We never considered ourselves 'southern', atleast outside of a geographical standpoint. It's mostly Yankees and Cubans/Haitians/Jamaicans south of W. Palm Beach.
