@SteamboatLion Contoversial take, but I've advised my brother that the worst thing he could do in the women department is to marry a shamelessly status-seeking, materialistic woman. Such women are frankly not desirable at all, and are likely to cause problems, divorce, etc.

It's insane to watch people wring their hands over the future prospects of teenagers. My half-brother is now 17, soon to leave the house, and a couple family members are biting their nails over "his future" in a way that makes no sense to me. The risks are lower now than they've ever been. As long as a young man stays away from drugs, leaves the house ASAP, has a sense of adventure, and is willing to work, he more or less can't lose. Even if he bottoms out badly, he's not gonna starve, and he'll bounce back. Yet people act as if the stakes are deathly high. They seem to think that if he makes one false move he's doomed, will be forced into some squalid node of the toothless underclass, cast out and scorned. This kind of neuroticism is what you might expect in a starving, anarchic, famine-stricken nation, but in 2026 USA, it seems cartoonishly absurd and out-of-place. Nobody seems to like to admit that a young man can really just "wing it" and do fine in America. He can have no plan at all and just make it work as he goes, it's not a big deal. He can do weird stuff, go off track, move somewhere random, take any job, whatever. The world's his oyster but a cast of middle-aged nervous nellies seem hell-bent to freak him out, drag him down, kill the very sense of adventure that is his best asset. Having watched him grow up since he was a baby, it's honestly hard to watch.

Ah, but remember, they live in a “full democracy” and we live in a “dictatorship”. 
I’m sure the people who make the freedom and democracy indexes will be updating them immediately.

You understand this, right? SCOTUS said you can't discriminate on the basis of race against Whites and Asians and all the Democrats immediately said we are most definitely going to keep doing that, and no legal conservative said that was wrong. And SCOTUS said Biden could not forgive student loans and Biden immediately held a press conference saying here are some more ways we will illegally "forgive" student loans. And oh, by the way, the people very clearly voted in favor of Prop 187 and Prop 8 and yet the courts were like, Haha Elections Don't Matter. And the people very clearly voted for Trump and yet the Star Wars judges said you still need unanimous permission from the judiciary to do anything unless it's creating mass entropy. Rule of law keeps going one way and one way only. So that is why they are the way they are.
