Please help me honor Staff Sergeant Shelbe Butner, 28, of Macon County, she passed on January 30, 2025, during a single vehicle rollover crash that was part of nighttime training at Fort Stewart. Butner had served in the Army for the past nine years. She was a motor transport operator, serving with the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team. She and one other soldier, a 25-year-old soldier from Maryland, died in the crash. The incident was part of a deadly week for the Army, after a Black Hawk helicopter collided with a passenger plane in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, killing three soldiers and all 64 people aboard the civilian plane.
