But every day this blockade continues, the pressure builds in both directions. Iran's economy bleeds from the south while Russia feeds it from the north through the Caspian. And the global economy bleeds right alongside Iran. Pakistan's army chief is in Tehran right now. The blockade is leverage, not strategy. And the clock is ticking louder for Washington than it is for Tehran, because midterms don't wait for ceasefire negotiations. The question isn't whether Trump can maintain the blockade. It's how long the American economy can afford it.

Trump using the U.S. Navy to blockade the Strait of Hormuz could easily be considered an act of war by other nations impacted by the action. What right does the U.S. have to use military force to prevent China from buying oil? However, China’s right to retaliate would seem clear.
