@sonofsonnet As someone who also undercharges for a business (I have a videography business for real estate) I know it can be frustrating. Since you’re considering it, how much would the increase be? I think it’s fair to raise it some given you work hard and deliver good work quickly.

I will probably be raising my prices in May. I'm considering a Ko-Fi membership tier to for members to keep prices the same for their projects. I'm not sure what people would be willing to pay, though, or if they would be willing at all.

“Invincible is a story. Powerscaling doesn’t matter” Invincible is a story that rests on a CORE of POWERSCALING. From the very bottom, it’s get stronger and beat people. Strength is referenced and scaled often. It’s important to the story. Being bad with it means you don’t understand your own story.

@J0hnADouglas I agree with this. While I think it’s nice to have a decent opening line, if they’ve seen the cover, read the blurb, and opened the book to read it - they’re already hooked. At that point it’s the writer’s job to keep them there.

Hot take but as great as an opening line should be, as a reader they seldom stick out to me. By now we all know the line is meant to hook us, but I’m invested in a book before I hit the first line. In all honesty, I don’t remember the first lines of any of my favorite books.
Justin Cronk@justinwcronk

I always think you should hook readers on the first sentence. This first page of my first book took me the longest to write. #epicfantasy #literaryfantasy

I’m reaching the point where powerscaling is genuinely starting to hurt my enjoyment of the show. #invincible I cannot believe this is the same dude struggling in any way to fight bugs

@hotrod_521 @wwarrior_1 This is an issue with a lot of western super hero media in general. It’s especially bad here in Invincible and it’s one of the reasons I struggled to watch it.

The average Californian mind cannot comprehend the joy of spending every afternoon in the summer watching a giant set of dark clouds and lightning roll in, pouring rain for 25 minutes, and then disappearing - leaving you with a hot, muggy, ozone smelling evening.

@J0hnADouglas I would NOT want to be interviewed by my main character. He would be a terrible interviewer (and kinda is in the books). His partner would be a far more enjoyable interviewer, and I’d take a one-on-one convo with him any day.

@fandompulse His stories are pulp adventures with clearly defined good and evil which works for his series, but should more writers do this? Maybe, maybe not. Some stories require more complex villains or heroes, others require clear cut good and bad.

Brian Jacques explains why he does not have sympathetic villains in his Redwall series: "When I was a boy, morality was taught in school and in church but I think that is no longer true to the extent that it used to be. I try to create very clear moral signposts of what is right and what is wrong. The children who read my books are generally at an age where they need to have things spelled out in 'black and white,' without ambiguity. I often tell my readers that my baddies are bad and my goodies are good. I won't have sympathetic baddies and schizophrenic goodies in my books." Should more writers do this?

A story in four parts. My favorite part of this conversation is where I was challenged on my “snobbery” and then blocked when things got too heated, apparently. Truly, the AI zealot is a most brave conversationalist.

@J0hnADouglas I’m not surprised tbh. They only have 3 or 4 huge authors there and the rest is slop because they know it’s more likely to sell IF anyone shows up. In their minds, filling out the shelves with something else is a waste of space.
