The elephant in the room the NHL ignores is that if players were forcing their way out of Florida, Tampa and Vegas to go to Toronto or Ottawa the league would make this a major sticking point in the last CBA but since they’re always going to Gary’s pet projects it’s not an issue

The Brady Tkachuk trade should be another reminder why no American born NHL player wants to play for a Canadian team because of the tax system up there, it's also going to be one of the reasons why Auston Matthews will get dealt as well.

Aside from Matthews making a killing in endorsements, Leafs have been making Matthews' contract different than Brady's contract. Getting vast majority of your money in bonuses July 1st does change "Taxes". Also, in 2020 Brian Burke said Matthews is gone due to taxes in 2024: youtu.be/23YqbcKxsUI
