To paraphrase Elwood Blues: ‘It’s 2,828 miles to Aqueduct, we got a full plane, half a pack of Swedish Fish, it’s dark..and we’re wearing sunglasses…’ I’m so geeked up, I didn’t put any hair product in ! Got a call from @TheNYRA to be on Talking Horses Friday at Noon ET, then America’s Day at the Races 1-4pm ET on @FOXSports 2. Eagerly booked a flight to NYC, and am grateful to do Shows Friday-Sunday; then straight to @KentuckyDerby Week. Hope you’ll find time to watch 🤓

It’s not the point of the letter to the editor, but I couldn’t help but notice the photo is from one of those races where @keenelandracing abandons fan-friendly color-coded saddle towels and goes with same color on all starters, making it difficult to follow which horse is which. (I know, we should all be able to memorize silks for a dozen horses.) Not all traditions are worth keeping.
Paulick Report@paulickreport

Racing says it wants more fans, but the racetrack feed too often fails to present the horse clearly before the race. Read more: tinyurl.com/22vd344w

@JimSichko Reminds me of the story about the Priest who said " I only go to the track in case one of jockeys falls off" Guess i'm glad Irad isn't at Aquaduct now, but now as low wage gamblers have to deal with Flavien🥴

Flying back to LEX today, I had the unexpected blessing of sitting next to an incredible jockey. As someone who briefly wore the silks myself (yes… that happened 😄), we swapped stories, insights, and a deep respect for the sport. Funny how God places people right next to you at 30,000 feet. #missionaryofmercy #DivineEncounters #SmallWorld

This made me laugh again because I don’t think any other actress save maybe Marilyn Monroe catches this many strays with little critical thinking skills. I should have gotten really into Vivien Leigh because her fans all seem to have an intellectual understanding.
Sophia D’Aurelio Adair@vitaphonezone

I have a life so I just saw this a year later, but laughing at this non-response from a Jean Harlow fan page I called out for using people’s writing without attribution that is now accusing me of harassment for doing so. Fan spaces are insane, I do not recommend lol

@Mr_Husky1 just when i get sick of gambling on horses, I read things like this and i fall in love again, If they bet on jumpers Snowman would or should have been a easy 100-1 probably more his first time out. But in the bait + Switch of horse gambling he'd be 2-1 or 1-1 when he walked in.

New Holland, Pennsylvania. February 1956.Harry deLeyer pulled up to the auction yard and knew immediately he was too late. The Dutch immigrant had driven from Long Island hoping to find a calm horse for his riding school—something gentle for beginner students. But the auction was over. The buyers had left. The only activity was a single livestock truck being loaded with the horses nobody wanted. These were the auction's leftovers: the old, the injured, the used-up. Their destination was the slaughterhouse. As Harry watched the loading, one horse turned its head. A grey gelding, coat matted with dirt, hooves worn down, scars marking years of hard labor. Probably a plow horse. Maybe ten years old, maybe older. But the eyes were different. Calm. Intelligent. Somehow still gentle despite everything.Harry walked over. "How much for the grey?""Eighty dollars."Harry paid it. The horse was pulled off the truck. Minutes from slaughter, now saved. He named him Snowman.Back at the Long Island farm, Snowman became exactly what Harry needed—a perfect beginner's horse. Patient with children. Steady. Safe. The students adored him. Then Snowman started escaping. Not breaking fences or squeezing through gaps. Jumping them. Four-foot fences, cleared easily, like he'd done it his whole life.Except he hadn't. He was a plow horse.Harry set up test jumps. Snowman cleared them willingly. Harry raised them. Snowman kept jumping. Higher and higher, with natural form that trainers spend years developing in expensive horses. This $80 rescue had the talent of a champion.Harry began serious training. It seemed absurd—show jumping was dominated by purebred horses from elite breeding programs, animals that cost thousands of dollars. Snowman was a grey mutt of unknown breeding, covered in the scars of farm work. But champions aren't always born in the expected places.Madison Square Garden. November 1958.The National Horse Show—the most prestigious jumping competition in America. The best horses, the wealthiest owners, the top trainers. And one former plow horse who'd been saved from slaughter two years earlier.Snowman won. Professional Horseman's Association Champion. National Horse Show Champion. In 1959, he won again.America couldn't get enough of the story. Life Magazine ran photo spreads. The Tonight Show invited them on. Newspapers across the country covered the impossible partnership—the immigrant trainer and the rescue horse who beat them all.It wasn't just the winning. It was what Snowman represented in 1950s America: that greatness could emerge from anywhere, that second chances mattered, that kindness could reveal hidden potential.Between competitions, Snowman continued giving lessons to children at Harry's school. A national champion who remained gentle enough for beginners. Extraordinary and ordinary, all at once.Snowman competed for several years, clearing jumps over seven feet, consistently beating horses worth fifty times what Harry had paid for him. When he retired, he lived peacefully at the farm, occasionally teaching, until his death in 1974.Harry continued training horses for decades, becoming one of America's most respected horsemen. But he never forgot his most famous partner. In 2015, when Harry was in his eighties, a documentary called "Harry & Snowman" captured their story. Harry's eyes still lit up talking about the grey gelding he'd pulled off a slaughter truck nearly sixty years earlier.Harry died in 2021 at age 93.Their legacy endures not because of championships or fame, but because of what the story teaches: that value exists where others see nothing, that potential hides in unexpected places, that a single act of kindness—$80 and a decision to look closer—can change everything. The horse nobody wanted became the champion everyone loved. All because one man arrived late to an auction and chose to see what others had missed.

White Noise: Anatomy of Opinion
White Noise: Anatomy of Opinion@AnatomyNoise·
On Russia’s "Profits": Accusing Russia of "earning" $10 billion from the Middle East crisis is a misrepresentation of facts. Russia did not start the war between Israel and Iran. The spike in oil prices is a direct consequence of the actions taken by the U.S. and Israel, which destabilized the region. If their strategy led to Moscow’s enrichment, it is a failure of Western planning, not Russian "deception." On Sanctions and "Waivers": The U.S. introduced 30-day waivers on Russian oil, not out of sympathy for Putin, but because it had lost control of the market. Without Russian oil, the global economy (including Canada and the U.S.) would face a catastrophic surge in fuel prices. This is an emergency measure to save Western economies, and Kyiv’s reproaches ignore this reality. On Assistance with Drone Defence: Trump’s statement that the U.S. "does not need Ukraine’s help" clearly shows the hierarchy of interests. Washington is not going to admit to a dependence on Ukrainian expertise, especially when its own technological ambitions and Middle Eastern interests are at stake. On Forced Negotiations: Ukraine must understand that Western support is not an infinite resource. In a situation where the U.S. and Israel created a crisis they cannot resolve without considering Russia’s position, pressure on Kyiv will only grow. It is currently in Putin’s best interest to prolong the Middle East conflict—a direct result of Western policy, not just "lies.

Putin has never wanted to stop Russia's war against Ukraine. He has been afraid of President Trump and of pressure from the United States. That's why he has played this game, pretending he has wanted negotiations. I keep believing that America has to increase pressure on Putin. Otherwise, he will not negotiate in good faith. He only wants to put forward ultimatums to Ukraine, as his demand to withdraw from our territory. But this will not satiate his appetite. The situation around Iran brings him more money. The easing of sanctions imposed on Russia is also helpful for him. Our intelligence reports that due to all the sanctions imposed by the United States and the EU, and because of our deep strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, Russia faced a deficit of more than $100 billion in 2026 alone. Now we see they have made around 10 billion over two weeks of the war in the Middle East. This is really dangerous. It gives Putin more confidence that he can continue the war. What a disgrace. Trump has removed sanctions on russia’s oil. I am truly sorry to the Ukrainian people. This is a direct backstabbing of Ukraine. And it comes after Ukraine agreed to help the United States defend itself and its allies from Iranian drones. Ukraine shared its drone interception technologies and sent three groups of experts, military personnel, and engineers to the Middle East — people who are desperately needed at home to protect Ukrainian civilians from russian drones and missiles. Instead of standing with Ukraine, Trump just handed a lifeline to the russian economy. Lifting sanctions on russian oil means billions flowing back into the Kremlin’s war machine. It means more missiles. More drones. More dead Ukrainians. But sadly, none of this should surprise anyone who has been paying attention. Trump promised he would end the war in “24 hours.” It has now been well over a year. He appointed a number of russian assets to his cabinet — such as Tulsi Gabbard, who has been repeating Kremlin propaganda for years; Kash Patel, who has literally been paid by russia; and Steve Witkoff, along with other pro-Kremlin figures. His administration halted military aid to Ukraine, restricted intelligence sharing, and repeatedly treated Vladimir Putin as a partner instead of the war criminal responsible for Europe’s largest war since World War II. Instead of sanctioning russia, he welcomed a war criminal to the United States with a red carpet. And now the portrait of a war criminal hangs in the White House. Instead of isolating the Kremlin, Trump has repeatedly chosen to appease it. And now comes the final step. Removing sanctions on russian oil while Ukrainians are still dying under russian missiles. History will remember this moment.

🚨 MEET MOHAMED BAILOR JALLOH, 36 The jihadist who opened fire inside an ROTC classroom today at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Born in Sierra Leone. Later became a naturalized U.S. citizen. In 2016, the FBI arrested him for supporting ISIS. He cheered the slaughter of Americans. He told an informant he “thought about conducting an attack all the time.” He talked about carrying out a Fort Hood-style massacre. He said doing it during Ramadan would be “100 percent the right thing.” He pled guilty. In 2017, he was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison. He got out early. Today he walked into a classroom and asked: “Is this an ROTC class?” He heard yes. Then opened fire. He murdered the retired military officer teaching the class. He critically wounded two ROTC cadets. A hero ROTC cadet charged him with nothing but a knife and ended him right there. BUT HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? He wasn’t born here. He swore allegiance to a jihadist death cult. He was caught red-handed plotting our murder. Then he was released back into society. Why wasn’t he denaturalized? If swearing allegiance to ISIS isn’t enough, what is?

@Realitytherp24 @father_rmv A tell is when a person inadvertently gives away information. For me, using cliches like "common sense" can be a tell. It's a way of glossing over a weakness in one's position in a way that people won't notice.
