CHAINLINK FACILITATES CROSS-BORDER EXCHANGE BETWEEN HONG KONG CBDC AND AUSTRALIAN STABLECOIN - @Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) is now enabling the secure exchange between a Hong Kong Central Bank Digital Currency (e-HKD) and an Australian dollar stablecoin (A$DC). - This development, part of the ongoing use case in Phase 2 of the e-HKD+ pilot program, represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to modernize cross-border financial infrastructure and enable near real-time settlement of digital assets across blockchain networks. Key Details: - The pilot involves major participants, including Visa (technology provider), ANZ (bank issuer), ChinaAMC, and Fidelity International (asset managers), working together to simulate the cross-border settlement of tokenized funds between Australia and Hong Kong. - Chainlink CCIP serves as the bridge between ANZ’s permissioned DASchain and the public Ethereum blockchain. This connectivity allows for seamless, secure token transfers that follow institutional compliance standards. - The use case demonstrates how an Australian investor can use A$DC to purchase tokenized money market fund (MMF) units from Hong Kong. The exchange of e-HKD and tokenized assets occurs simultaneously, eliminating settlement-related counterparty risks. - Visa’s Tokenized Asset Platform (VTAP) supports the infrastructure by minting, burning, and transferring tokens across chains, while Chainlink enables secure interoperability and compliance via smart contracts. - The trial also explores the practical application of token standards, namely ERC-20 and ERC-3643. While ERC-20 is widely used for simplicity, ERC-3643 offers greater regulatory compliance, making it suitable for financial institutions and tokenized deposits. - Notably, the pilot addresses the limitations of current financial systems, such as long settlement times and a lack of real-time transparency. - Blockchain infrastructure could allow 24/7 settlement, unlike the traditional T+2 settlement cycle. As part of future developments, end-to-end testing is expected to reveal more about infrastructure readiness, interoperability, and scalability for global adoption of tokenized finance.
