@ByzGeneral Aside from giving feedback, I have not worked on the algorithm since I started at X; it was primarily led by xAI. This was one of the first times where I got to work directly on the algorithm & designing the experiment. We launched the test on Friday and shipped it yesterday.

Optimising for time spent over community was the biggest mistake since Elon bought the app. We go to all the effort to curate a list of people to follow — it was literally the biggest friction point when joining — and then you undo all of our active choices by pushing content that we didn’t look for, but induced engagement through provocation.

We're rolling out a small tweak to boost visibility of your posts to your mutuals (people who you follow back). We noticed this data was missing from the algo and it made your friends appear less in your replies. This resulted in the reply section feeling more like a battleground with people you don't recognize. This should also help clusters form around interests more easily, which many people have asked for.
