During #LonelinessAwarenessWeek, we renewed our call for a loneliness strategy in Northern Ireland, as our recent poll has shown that many fear a Covid-19 loneliness legacy.

We were delighted to meet Junior Ministers Aisling Reilly and Pam Cameron yesterday. We had a valuable discussion on humanitarian support for people in crisis and how preventative, community-based care can be embedded in the Programme for Government.

We are delighted to support today's Motion on the development of a Loneliness Strategy. Loneliness affects people of all ages and backgrounds, and can severely impact physical and mental health. A cross-departmental Strategy is needed to address this issue on a long-term basis.

Today we co-signed a letter to all @niassembly Members calling for action to tackle loneliness in Northern Ireland. Nearly 30% of unpaid carers in N. Ireland report feeling lonely always or often. A restored Executive must prioritise a cross-departmental approach to loneliness.
