Instead of a clear decision, ministers held secret meetings, argued about international law, then quietly refused.
Now the leak is out.
Trump is furious.
The special relationship is under strain.
And millions of Britons are left asking the most serious question citizens can ever ask of a government:
Are they capable of acting decisively to protect the country and its alliances — or are political priorities and legal theories now taking precedence over Britain’s security?
Because if allies cannot rely on us when it matters, the consequences will reach far beyond this crisis.
My house goes on the market next week, so it's time to find a new home. Can't decide on an apartment in a lively area or a house that's in a quieter place but still close to activity. I suppose I'll just see what comes up. But it's exciting to know that a new chapter begins soon.
