My take on the EF debate: if we’re going to upgrade tornadoes like Enid and Enderlin, then it’s time to address the elephant in the room… Rolling Fork.

New research from the NSSL and the University of Illinois suggests the April 23rd Enid tornado produced winds above its current EF4 rating. Using treefall pattern analysis and 3D vortex modeling of the RV displacement near Southgate Road, three independent analyses estimated peak 3 second winds between 204 and 217 mph, those are winds of EF5 intensity. The tornado remains officially rated EF4 at 175-180 mph. Any revision rests with NWS Norman.

@PettusWX Ugh that's the one of the biggest problems I was hoping my app would solve. Right now everything is vetted by the NWS before it's shown. The images are uploaded from their damage assessments but sometimes they add other reference photos... So far I haven't seen any ai photos.

The takeaway everyone should have from this NWS office supposedly posting an ai image of a tornado (tho I’m leaning not ai at the moment), is that image generation has come a very long way and this is going to be a big problem not being able to verify if a photo 100% is real.
