@brettjrob @StrmchsrHunterF This is the true compelling argument. Standard time would be disastrous for getting off work on time to chase

@Jigsaw9051Wx Far southern AB and far SW SK, the strip along the US border
English

On a more serious note I became super curious why far southern AB and far SW SK near the US border have a local minima in tornadoes. Probably two contributing factors:
- High terrain over Banff and more rugged/gradual transition from the Rockies to the Northern Plains further south in MT means lee cyclones tend to preferentially develop in southern AB.
- "Canola sweat" adds an ET boost to moisture already pooling along the warm front adjacent to the lee low

...I should add more cases to Canada

over the last ~15 of so years the algo made following or online friendship kind of pointless, it became basic decoration (esp cuz fb pushed the gas on engagement without second thought). the recommender took over & changed society / culture like never before.
ppl started increasingly migrating to things like group chats & even joining communities etc. to connect but those things have serious friction.
x has this unique ability to push the boundaries the other way here as it relies more & more on subscription revenue than ad revenue. you know the ppl at fb are watching closely to see what happens. if it works, i suspect they will fire up the xerox machine pretty quickly.

We're rolling out a small tweak to boost visibility of your posts to your mutuals (people who you follow back). We noticed this data was missing from the algo and it made your friends appear less in your replies. This resulted in the reply section feeling more like a battleground with people you don't recognize. This should also help clusters form around interests more easily, which many people have asked for.

@StrmchsrHunterF Eh... I would say maturity is putting in the effort to discern those situations. But the discernment itself is a developed skill.
English

@wxmann I think it's called, reading the room.
There are times to converse and times to listen. Both can be true but knowing the right one can be a sign of intellectual maturity.
English

Half the people agree with this and half vehemently disagree. Are we overthinking this talking to each other thing?

normalize not bringing up a similar story about yourself when someone is telling you something about themselves, just listen

@SirlinJohn It would be ironic if the proliferation of AI slop is what forces the hand to make social media platforms social again
English

@SirlinJohn Hope other platforms follow suit but I'm not sure the incentives on social media platforms work out to do this elsewhere
English

@wxmann It’s wild to actually see stuff from people I follow. What a radical concept lol
English

@wxmann Yes. Honest to god, everyone over complicates everything and soaks all conversations in layers of irony.
English

Yes 100%. Also the story shared should be complementing (constructive interference) the original story and not detracting, invalidating, or overshadowing it (destructive interference).
A lot of it is vibes and feeling your way through, and as someone who struggles with social interaction I won't judge anyone too harshly for it.
English

@wxmann I think the context is super important, discussing something like weather/hobbies/work = good
Someones generational trauma probably not
English

@wxmann I've been researching/learning/practicing how to better express empathy over the last year or so. My go-to was always to bring up a similar story.. it comes from a good place, trying to show you relate, but in practice from their perspective it most often has negative effect
