@BooksnBattle Wow...what are the odds a 1st Edition of Grant's Memoirs would share company with a (I presume 1st edition) of Dune.

As always, I am late to the discussion on the 'hottest' piece of media entertainment. But I've finally got around to watching Ken Burns documentary on the American Revolution....I have thoughts. For better or worse, they are not strong thoughts. Visually great, the mash up between live action living historians and the focus on period artwork worked well. I am pleasantly surprised it contained the story to six two hour episodes. However, this is a dense series with dropping names, dates & places of significance that if you blink you may miss an important chunk over the wider conflict. I was also not impressed with the 'talking heads' brought in to provide context. I respect and look forward to reading each intellects contribution to their studies on the American Revolution, but their postulation throughout the series only complicated an already dense viewing experience. Personally, I feel in these situations where you are attempting to tell a conflict linearly you need one guiding voice as its easier to follow. Had this been a series where each episode was self-contained on a particular aspect, I would be more relaxed to hearing the intellects various theories. But I am curious what is the opinion of others on this massive series?

Jacob C Higgins (1826-1893) was involved with numerous military units for the union war effort during the American Civil War. Most notably, he commanded the 125th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Battle of Antietam. Previously, he had led the 1st Pennsylvania Cavalry in the Battle of Dranesville. He would latter command Pennsylvania Emergency Militia in Bedford & Blair County and finally colonel of the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry. He is one of the veterans whose service is highlighted in the latest edition of Retracing History. Mr. Higgins has a prominent marker overlooking his final resting place in Grandview Cemetery of Johnstown, PA. The monument was established by veterans of the 125th PVI: Watch The Full Episode Here: youtu.be/jh73AO0k1lw?si…

Apparently this weekend the almighty algorithm of X is fueling cultural diffusion between Japan & the United States of America....all I can contribute to this phenomena is that strange time I thought it would be a good idea to use the namesake of an anime character to discuss naval history. What did I learn from doing this?....never edit such a project via iMovie on a smart phone again: youtu.be/thnlmyUhQVI?si…

By January 1864, Emory Fisher found himself commissioned a 1st Lieutenant with the 22nd United States Colored Troops. He would be killed while leading them toward enemy entrenchments in the midst of the 2nd Battle of Petersburg. His story is one of several that I shall be sharing in tomorrow's video. A lot of fascinating stories from the American Civil War we shall be covering. I hope you can join us for the premiere. The career of the USS Michigan is a fascinating but often overlooked chapter in US Military History which propelled the country toward naval supremacy. While the USS New Jersey is famous as a flagship from World War 2, its intervention during the Lebanese Civil War I find to be its most interesting yet also tragic chapter of its storied career. Watch the full video this short was clipped from: youtu.be/yZcjNegfeWo
