@HalcyonHypnotic Does your school have a rocket club? That’s where I learned most of what I know. I was also on track to graduate a semester early, but after taking a couple internships I’m now a semester late

Another random late night rant but move in day for the fall semester is 9 days away, which is crazy because I just finished freshman year 2.5 months ago and move in day is basically next week and first day of classes is in a month. Like I’m already 44% done with my degree and I have a decent gpa of 3.4. However it’s also made me realize that time is going by incredibly fast and it’s boosted by the fact that I can graduate a semester early since I’m 19% ahead of where I’m supposed to be. And this has made me further realize that I’m 44% done with my degree and I have nothing much to show for it 😭 Like I have no real knowledge of rockets beyond the surface level and it maddens me because I do truly want to be a master of what I want to do, but there’s no real good way to do that. People will tell me, oh just read the books and self study, when in reality there’s no books on what aerospace companies are looking for today. There’s no books on rapidly reusable rockets caught by mechazilla arms, no books on internet mega constellations, nothing on building a colony on mars sustainably. To be real, the only way to gain experience on this kind of stuff is to be working for these companies right now. It’s like what do I even do, it’s not like there’s college classes on reusable rockets, they’re just teaching stupid stuff that’s slightly adjacent to rocketry. Literally 95% of college courses is to teach you concepts that have been already conquered by softwares, and sure you need to know the concepts to know that the software is correct and so you can help build the software up but at the same time it’s probably more valuable to learn different things.

@B_Garelick 380mph deploy, avionics destroyed at deployment, hard landing (Main chute came out at ground impact). It was accidentally underfilled and would’ve continued accelerating sideways otherwise

@jackofspuds Is there even a meaningful difference between 200 feet and 50 feet for a flyover? If something goes wrong at either altitude the pilot and everyone on the ground is dead anyway, there isn't going to be enough time to do anything else

@mightbejell0 @eccorca Trajectories mod. Hold nose up 30-40 degrees and bank left and right to keep lift down (Shuttle style). With belly-flop stuff I hold around 55deg AOA and adjust up and down to change my glide (Starship style). Takes a bit of practice

@vibechaserrr They will produce different thrust curves due to variance. Centered will reduce the moment arm of each motor, which will give a straighter flight

Guys genuine question I’m doing a two motor model rocket should the engines be at the edge or centre???
