In the latest issue of Reframe Voices, Divine Mugisha shares a journey through the education system within refugee camp walls. She highlights a critical barrier in the humanitarian sector: the demand for a "different story" or a specific narrative to qualify for support. She argues that when international scholarship processes and immigration systems falter, it is the tenacity of the individual and the commitment of Refugee-Led Organisations (RLOs) like Supportive Pillar Organisation (SPO) that bridge the gap. Despite being told to "apply again only when you have a different story," Divine transformed her own lived experience into a platform for advocacy, now supporting over 30 students across three regions in Malawi. Reframe Voices is a monthly journal amplifying refugee-led advocacy and lived experiences, challenging conventional humanitarian narratives. 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗻: 𝗗𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 (𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗗) We are proud to spotlight the DIME Refugee Student Council (CERD), a pioneering initiative in Latin America led by democratically elected refugee students in Mexico. CERD is dedicated to ensuring that refugees are not just subjects of discussion, but active leaders in the decisions that shape their futures. Inspired by global leadership models, they advocate for autonomy and collective student strength. Their work centres on three pillars: self-representation, an active participatory voice, and genuine inclusion. By engaging in high-level migration summits and academic conferences, CERD proves that sustainable solutions are only possible when the refugee community leads the dialogue. Beyond advocacy, the council aims to consolidate as an autonomous organisation capable of directly influencing national policies. By leveraging human talent and ethical leadership, they are dignifying the rights of refugee students and creating a national benchmark for inclusive, student-led development. In the second issue of Reframe Voices, Ajabna Hassan Kuku provides a look at the reality of humanitarian cuts in Kakuma Refugee Camp. Beyond the statistics, these cuts manifest as empty classrooms and overstretched services. He argues that while international agencies may scale back when funding dries up, Refugee-Led Organisations (RLOs) remain. They are the primary responders, yet they continue to be treated as "temporary helpers" rather than essential partners. Reframe Voices is a monthly journal amplifying refugee-led advocacy and lived experiences, challenging conventional humanitarian narratives. Kyaka II is home to 136,129 people, 21% of whom are youth representing the future of the community. Today, that future is under threat. As international funding dwindles, the "top-down" aid model is failing. Healthcare is collapsing and food insecurity is at an all-time high. Yet, amidst this crisis, local leaders are calling for a new legacy—one built on capacity sharing and direct investment in local organisations rather than temporary, indirect relief. Reframe Voices is a monthly journal amplifying refugee-led advocacy and lived experiences, challenging conventional humanitarian narratives.
