I honestly think it’s pretty remarkable that $SGMO haven’t diluted shareholders with ATM at least March 25. In situations like this, most companies would usually raise capital much earlier, especially with their current cash position.
What also stands out is that management has not lowered or adjusted their spending guidance of $100–130 million. That suggests they’re still planning to operate aggressively and continue funding their programs at the same pace, despite having relatively limited cash on hand.
As of 3/31 they reportedly only had around $27 million in cash, which makes the situation even more interesting. Based on those numbers alone, you would normally expect either a financing announcement, cost-cutting measures, or some kind of dilution by now.
The fact that none of that has happened makes me think they are either extremely confident that a partnership, buyout, licensing agreement, or some other major deal is close to being finalized — or there’s another source of funding/support that the market doesn’t fully understand yet.
Otherwise, the current strategy would seem difficult to sustain for very long without raising additional capital.
