If he sold the character to Nickelodeon, then they can do whatever they want. They have no obligation to involve him. Same with Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird with TMNT. They sold the IP to Nickelodeon and they continued to do whatever they wanted with it. It sucks, but it is what it is. If he didn’t sell the IP to them, then that’s plain wrong
