The President has signed the Trans Bill into an Act, despite thousands of letters from trans persons requesting not to grant assent to the Bill and instead send it back to the parliament.

The regressive Trans Bill, 2026 is passed from Lok Sabha without even sending to select committee. Eyes on the Rajya Sabha now. On ground protest, social media protests and Legal challenges must follow against this bill ! #RejectTransbill2026

Gender non-conforming individuals already face deep-rooted oppression. Instead of addressing this injustice, the Modi government’s regressive Transgender Bill deepens it - by subjecting their bodies and lived experiences to invasive scrutiny. By fixating on identity validation, this law reveals its true intent: the state’s urge to control and regulate marginalised lives. This is yet another attempt by the government to target and penalise those who dare to be different. And it stands in direct contradiction to India’s long-standing tradition of tolerance and dignity for all.

The BJP government’s Transgender Persons Amendment Bill is a brazen attack on the Constitutional rights and identity of transgender people. This regressive bill: - strips transgender people of their ability to self identify, violating a Supreme Court judgement - wipes out the diverse cultural identities of communities across India - forces trans people to undergo dehumanizing examinations by a medical board - introduces criminal penalties and surveillance without safeguards The BJP government hasn’t consulted the trans community and brought a bill which stigmatises rather than protects them. The Constitution protects every Indian’s right to life, liberty, identity, and dignity. This BJP government is violating our Constitution and destroying India’s rich history of honouring transgender communities in pursuit of its narrow ideas. The Congress Party unequivocally opposes this Bill.

Any protests in Chennai against the trans bill? LMK!

Press Release 22nd March, 2026 AAP slams Modi Govt's Transgender Person's Amendment Bill, anti-LGBTQIA+ and anti-constitutional AAP: Transgender Amendment Bill is a regressive legislation, representative of the RSS-BJP's medieval anti-LGBTQIA+ pschye The Aam Aadmi Party today strongly condemned the 'Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026' brought in by the Modi Government, terming it anti-LGBTQIA+ and anti- constitutional. "This bill dilutes and goes against the letter and spirit of the NALSA V/s Union of India of 2014, where the Supreme Court of India, recognized the rights of transgender persons to self-identification. This is reflective of the BJP, which has been anti-LGBT and representive of the RSS' medieval and regressive pschye. Lets not forget, at a time when everyone expected the Modi Govt to progressively empower the queer community, with increasing civil rights, the BJP Govt opposed gay marriage. This is a regressive legislation which has been brought about with absolutely no consulation or consensus with the community, which is already intersectionally marginalized. Rather than addressing the community's marginalization, it further increases their vulnerability.", said @PreetiSMenon , Mumbai President, Aam Aadmi Party. "The last decade has seen progressive evolution and mainstreaming of the transgender community, which this half-baked and poor policy oriented legislation will literally roll back, as a direct consequence of it's implementation. We stand in solidarity with the queer community and call for the immediate withdrawal of this bill and extensive public consulatation with the community. ", said Adv @rubenmasc , Mumbai Working President, Aam Aadmi Party. Sincerely, AAP Mumbai Media Team

A delegation of transgender activists from across India met LoP Shri @RahulGandhi, in the presence of Congress General Secretary & MP Smt. @priyankagandhi ji and senior leaders. The delegation expressed strong opposition to the government’s proposed Transgender Persons Bill, stating that it undermines their right to self-identify their gender, a right upheld by the Supreme Court. They highlighted that the Bill could strip lakhs of transgender individuals, including those from historically recognized communities, of legal recognition and protection. They also raised concerns over provisions they described as dehumanizing and punitive, including mandatory medical examinations, criminal penalties without adequate safeguards, and the dilution of existing protections. Rahul ji assured the delegation that the Congress party stands firmly with the rights and dignity of transgender persons and will oppose the Bill in Parliament. 📍 New Delhi

In the last few days, office bearers and members of the AIPC LGBTQIA+ Domain across the country have mobilised both on the streets and in policy spaces, protesting and actively lobbying MPs as the Lok Sabha takes up the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill 2026. This Bill seeks to take away the right to self-identification, replacing dignity with surveillance, medical gatekeeping, and bureaucratic control, apply discriminatory rules, effectively deciding who gets recognised and who is excluded. We will not accept laws that erase any community. Stand with trans lives. #TransRightsAreHumanRights

My transition, now at the stage of coming out in my social circles, came after years of internal turmoil. Just as self-acceptance felt within reach, the goalposts have shifted again @mridulasee on why the transgender rights bill does not amend but erases article-14.com/post/the-trans…
