Reform Party UK Exposed 🇬🇧
Nigel Farage and Reform UK are desperately trying to distance themselves from Donald Trump’s Iran War. Don’t let them pretend they didn’t support it.

Growing global adoption of electric vehicles helped avoid the consumption of 2.3 million barrels of oil per day last year. By 2030, avoided daily consumption could more than double to 5.25 million barrels. “Electric vehicles are increasingly cost-competitive with gasoline cars. Oil volatility means EVs are a common-sense choice for countries wishing to insulate themselves from future shocks.” Daan Walter, analyst at Ember.

Magnificent article & investigation by Alan Rusbridger on how the utterly useless Ofcom allowed one of its regulated TV channels, GBNews, to be taken over by a political party.

A massively consequential investigation by Alan Rusbridger into GB News: how "one political party in Britain has effectively ended up with its own television station". Raises deep questions about hi-jacking of British media/political culture: thenewworld.co.uk/alan-rusbridge…

🔥 It’s happened almost by stealth. GB News has effectively become Reform TV. A major UK political leader, Nigel Farage, hosts his own “news” show: something that would have been unthinkable in British broadcasting. A review by 20 experienced journalists found: • systemic bias • lack of challenge • factual inaccuracies • and overwhelming alignment with Reform talking points ☠️ Average compliance with @Ofcom rules? 1.5 out of 5. Meanwhile Ofcom has largely waved it through: even a Trump interview rated zero for impartiality was cleared because “balance” came hours later in a different programme. This is about something really fundamental: 👉 In the UK, newspapers can be partisan. 👉 Broadcasters are supposed to be impartial by law. That line is now being blurred or ignored. Even @afneil says the channel became something entirely different from what was promised: “A kind of Fox News… they worshipped the ground Farage walked on.” When a political movement effectively gains its own TV platform, with minimal regulation, it doesn’t just shape debate. It reshapes democracy. The question isn’t whether you agree with the politics. It’s whether the rules that underpin trust in broadcast news are still being enforced at all.

GB News has turned into the Reform channel. After a New World investigation found hundreds of breaches of the rules on accuracy and impartiality, Ofcom has failed to do its job and act. We've seen what Fox News has done to politics in the US. We can't let it happen here.

Many Chelsea supporters think the decision to sell Chelsea FC to the US consortium BlueCo in 2022 was unwise and has worked out badly. Just to remind you, the culture secretary responsible for approving the deal was Nadine Dorries, and the prime minister was Boris Johnson.

Fantastic news in the UK today - the government has apparently ditched its plan to force creatives to 'opt out' if they don't want AI companies training on their life's work. The opt-out proposal was unfair and unworkable. Many couldn't realistically have opted out at all, and it would have affected small rights holders disproportionately negatively. We should be grateful to the government for listening to reason on this, rather than just listening to the big tech lobby. They have done the right thing by putting opt-out behind us. They should now reaffirm what the law says - that AI companies must license people's work if they want to train on it - and commit not to change that law. thetimes.com/uk/technology-…

Met with Prime Minister Starmer in London today to strengthen the Canada–UK partnership on trade and security. In a more dangerous and divided world, Canada is working closely with our Allies. We discussed the Middle East, support for Ukraine and maintaining pressure on Russia, and deepening economic cooperation to benefit our workers.

This reporter refused to be shushed: Yesterday Mariam Khan (@MKhan47) was the TV pool representative aboard Air Force One, meaning she was there on behalf of all the major networks. Khan brought up the fact that "your PAC put out a fundraising email" using photos taken at a dignified transfer of US service members killed in Kuwait. She asked: "Do you think that's an appropriate email to send?" Trump said yes, and that he didn't see the email, then defended himself, then asked, "Who are you with?" Trump genuinely didn't recognize Khan — it was actually her first time aboard Air Force One with him. (She reported from Capitol Hill for ten years and recently switched beats to cover the State Department, Pentagon and foreign affairs.) When she answered Trump's question and said ABC, he said, "I don't want any more from ABC," and looked around the plane for other questioners. But Khan was undeterred. She tried asking about the deaths of US service members. He didn't respond. She later said, "Can you explain why we’re sending 5,000 marines and sailors?" and he replied with the shush, adding, "You're a very obnoxious person." Khan kept trying — recognizing, again, that she was there on behalf of CNN, Fox and other networks. She asked about the Pentagon investigation into the missile strike at the school in Minab, Iran. He said, "We don't know." She asked about the deaths of service members again. He ignored her. Khan was exemplary. She was, as one ABC colleague said, "steady as can be." She was respectful and persistent. She refused to be shushed.
