Well this got me good🥹. I sometimes forget the impact we can have as pharmacy educators. This was a very kind and thoughtful reminder. #pharmed @UAlberta_Pharm

@mickherenow @fordnation @SylviaJonesMPP Pharmacists are not trained to provide patient care, to take a medical history, examine patients, formulate diagnoses, communicate with patients, etc. They have no dermatology training to know shingles from psoriasis. Imperfect solution or just another way to shovel 💰to Weston?

Physicians cannot own pharmacies in Ontario because it was recognized there may be a significant bias to overprescribe since each prescription would yield additional income. However @fordnation @SylviaJonesMPP continue to add to a list of problems that pharmacists can Rx for.

@LessIsMoreMed @DocMCohen Don’t they already? Surgeons “prescribe” surgery then do the surgery. Dentists “prescribe” braces then provide them. Optometrists- glasses. And they all make money from it. How is that not a conflict of interest?

@DocMCohen The conflict of interest does not seem to be a concern to our governments. If it is not a big deal, they should let physicians dispense and sell patients whatever device, drug, potion they like. (Obviously that is a terrible idea)

Pharmacist ≠ Physician. Full stop. @ONgov needs to address the root causes instead of applying band-aid solutions that benefit large corporations over patients. Listen as Dr. @DominikNowakMD explains why everyone in Ontario should be demanding a family doctor. #onhealth.

@PharmacistMama @raghu_venugopal Is their preference to send EVERY patient experiencing headache symptoms to their GP or to the ER? I’m sure that will go over well. We’re trained to assess and triage based on red flags. Someone needs to calm down. Thanks for your advocacy @PharmacistMama

Will your Ontario pharmacist "treating headache" consider and evaluate for subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracranial mass, vessel dissection, meningitis, intracranial bleed, glaucoma, temporal arteritis and intracranial hypertension? Or just net more public funds for Loblaw Ltd.?
Dr. Adil Shamji 🇨🇦@ShamjiAdil

So, @fordnation thinks funnelling patients without family doctors into pharmacies is an easy way out of the primary care crisis. Pharmacists are an important part of the healthcare team, but this is not a solution for the 2.5M patients without a family doctor. #onpoli #onhealth

A good week for evidence and pharmacist care 1/2: Atrial Fibrillation (AF): RCT of pharm identification and prescribing of anticoagulation in patients with AF. Outcome was guideline-concordant anticoagulation, which was 92.3% (pharm care )vs. 56.1% ref to physician), p<0.001...
