Yesterday Aaron had to run to Austin, and he stopped in a small town on the way to get gas. The lady working behind the counter was visibly upset, so he asked her if she was okay. I think a lot of people are trying their best to pretend everything is okay just to get through another day in this circus, but deep down, no matter what the official word is (a word that is rapidly losing any last scraps of legitimacy it might have ever had), we all know nothing is okay here. Something that was already wrong for a long time has now shifted to very wrong the same way things continually get worse in a horror film about a haunted house. The demoralization and anxiety and depression bubbling not even half an inch under the surface of our society right now cannot continue to build indefinitely, just like the pressure in a volcano doesn't build up and up and up forever. An eruption is inevitable. Something will have to give.
