@TracesofTexas Davy Crockett crossed the red river there on his way to the Alamo. Historical marker is near Kiomatia.
English

Formerly a country store, this unimposing structure is all that remains of the ghost town of Kiomatia, which has the distinction of being a ghost town twice. First its American Indian residents, who had there for centuries, abandoned the site. Later, white settlers arrived, created a town, and subsequently left.
Prehistoric Caddoan peoples occupied the Kiomatia area by at least the close of the first millennium. On the Texas side of the Red River, opposite the mouth of the Kiamichi river in Oklahoma, they built two clusters of earthen mounds that appear to have served both ceremonial and administrative purposes. From these centers extended a network of Caddoan villages whose inhabitants sustained themselves through agriculture and hunting. Surplus production flowed back toward the mound complexes. The population withdrew from the area around 1795, probably as a response to a series of tremendous floods.
The Kiomatia mounds comprise two pairs of earthen structures set roughly a mile apart, and it remains uncertain whether the pairs were contemporaneous. Each consists of a larger mound accompanied by a smaller one situated about 600 yards to the northeast. Later settlers supplied the names: the northwestern pair is known as the Wright Plantation Mound, while the other is called the Faskin Mound. The larger mounds were probably platforms for ceremonial buildings; the smaller ones may have had funerary functions.
By the time American settlers began arriving in the Red River Valley around 1816, the mounds had stood unused for some years. Drawn by the fertile floodplain but wary of the hazards of floods, settlers built directly atop the elevated earthworks. Claiborne Wright, among the earliest permanent settlers in what was then called Pecan Point, established a dogtrot cabin on the Wright Plantation Mound in the 1830s, using enslaved labor. A farmhouse once occupied the Faskin Mound as well, but it was removed in the mid-1970s. Kiomatia reached its population zenith of 250 in 1914, but this has been followed by slow, irreversible decline. The post office closed in 1954 and that was pretty much all she wrote.
Although it's kind of out there all by its lonesome now, Kiomatia was once a major hub of regional transportation. Nineteenth-century planters regarded Wright’s Landing as the head of reliable steam navigation on the Red River, so goods from all over congregated there. Overland routes converged there as well: a military wagon road ran southwest from Portsmouth through Fort Gibson to the Kiamichi’s mouth, and in 1844 the Republic of Texas laid out a connecting road on the Texas side of the river from the Trinity River in Dallas County to Kiomatia, linking it with the Fort Smith–Fort Gibson route.
Arcane fact: the bars on the windows of this building were flattened by a blacksmith from old buggy rims.

@repTILLYan I believe being a slow team and cant hit no one is a bigger problem than wonky seeding.
English

@JuroKral @Thalheimer15 Yeah good at shaking sticks a guys. That stuff don't work in the playoffs.
English

@Thalheimer15 Internal growth. Not much else needed.
Look at Lundkvist this spring.
Now add in Bichsel.
Harley & Heiskanen in their prime.
Lindell as a backstop.
They’re surprisingly good D-wise.

If you were wondering how the post-Seguin deal Stars could look like in 2027-28:
This team had around $12.5M in cap space before adding a hypothetical free agent like Alex DeBrincat.
Even with Bourque at 6x6M & Bichsel at 3x5M.
Dallas will be FA hunting very soon.

@PuckReportNHL Stars fan here. It’s an ugly shot but I don’t think you fine the guy. Sometimes you just get your dander up and make a dumb play. Even if it was aggressive I don’t think it was premeditated or anything. Just a battle. Let hockey be hockey

My run at DLLS is over. I had a blast in the last 18 months helping build the DLLS Stars show and I'm going to miss it.
Here's some transparency on why, sports media, and why I still love this field.
