President Jimmy Carter was a tremendous force for good, both as president and private citizen, during his accomplished life.
I’m sending his family, friends, and loved ones my prayers and love during this somber time.

New Dems always negotiate in good faith, seek compromise without compromising our values, and stand by our word. We expect our counterparts to do the same.
House Republicans broke their word, then tried to rely on Democrats to bail them out of a shutdown crisis they created.
Here's what happened:
Leaders on both sides negotiated a deal to keep the government open, deliver critical disaster assistance to communities ravaged by natural disasters, provide desperately needed economic aid to farmers, and much more.
Speaker Johnson then caved to the demands of an unelected wannabe oligarch, turned his back on the deal he negotiated, and began driving us toward a reckless shutdown that would leave our troops overseas without pay, let families go hungry, and disrupt holiday travel.
After a day of infighting and chaos, Republicans scrapped key provisions negotiated by Democrats and crammed in a debt limit suspension so the incoming Administration can enact its disastrous agenda with impunity. They then expected Democrats' help to help pass it.
In the end it wasn’t just House Democrats who opposed the bill – 38 House Republicans also said no.
The message from House Democrats is loud and clear: Speaker Johnson must stay true to his word, enable Congress to prevent a government shutdown as was negotiated, and end the chaos he is creating.
