One of the greatest privileges I’ve had in Congress was serving alongside Congressman John Lewis. I keep a photo in my office from the day my wife Janine and I walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge with John in 2019. It was a moment neither of us will ever forget. That photo reminds me every day of the courage it took to move our country forward and why we must never take the right to vote for granted. As we mark six years since his passing, John’s call to make “good trouble” remains as urgent as ever. At this moment in time with Donald Trump in the White House, we must follow John’s example and do just that.

Tonight, @POTUS is reportedly going to claim that he has intelligence to prove that he, not Joe Biden, actually won in 2020. That’s a lie. There is no credible intelligence whatsoever that the 2020 election was anything other than fully secure, fair, and accurate. 🧵

President Trump’s behavior is becoming more and more erratic. I expect tonight’s speech to be another desperate attempt to relitigate the election he lost in 2020 and undermine confidence in our elections ahead of November. Don’t fall for his lies.

Ranking Member @jahimes: Our elections are strong and secure because of the quiet and dignified work of thousands of patriotic Americans in the intelligence community, in state and local election offices and in polling places themselves. nytimes.com/2026/07/16/opi…

I voted present on today’s amendment put forward by Representative Thomas Massie to eliminate all funding for Israel in the State Department and National Security appropriations bill. I have long supported the U.S.-Israel relationship and believe in Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state. I also firmly believe that a two-state solution is the only path to lasting peace, security, and dignity for Israelis and Palestinians alike. Achieving that goal will require a change in America’s approach toward the Netanyahu government. This amendment is poorly drafted and overly broad. It would go beyond military assistance and restrict funding for humanitarian aid, refugee assistance, peacebuilding efforts, and U.S. diplomatic operations. Cutting these programs would undermine our ability to promote peace and stability in Israel, Gaza, the West Bank, and the broader region. At the same time, I cannot vote against this amendment because I do not condone the Netanyahu government’s conduct of the war in Gaza and the resulting humanitarian crisis, its actions in Lebanon, its failure to confront escalating settler violence in the West Bank, and its role in drawing the United States into the current war with Iran. My present vote reflects my opposition to both the amendment as written and the policies of the Netanyahu government.

The most significant housing package passed by Congress in decades became law over the weekend. I was proud to join a strong bipartisan majority in voting for it. I recently broke down what this new law means for Sacramento County, including how it will streamline the building process, make it easier to build more housing, and ultimately help lower housing costs.

Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus
#OTD 158 years ago, the 14th Amendment was ratified—guaranteeing citizenship to those born in the U.S. and enabling Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to pursue the American Dream. CAPAC will always fight to protect birthright citizenship from those who seek to undermine it.

I want to wish you and your family a safe and happy Fourth of July. This is a time to reflect on what unites us as Americans. Our nation’s strength has always come from the diversity of our experiences, our stories, and our shared contributions to the American experiment. Together, they weave the fabric of our country and make us stronger. As we celebrate our independence, let's also reflect on the values that have guided our nation for 250 years: freedom, opportunity, service, and the shared responsibility we have to build a more perfect union for our children and grandchildren.

One year ago today, House Republicans passed the Big Ugly Bill. Now, they are trying to celebrate it. There is nothing to celebrate. Millions of Americans have lost their healthcare. Families are still struggling to put food on the table, pay rent, and afford gas. Instead of celebrating a bill that ripped away healthcare and food assistance, we should work together to lower costs, expand access to healthcare, feed our kids, and build more housing. Listen to your constituents. Let’s do better.

Wow. This Supreme Court got something right for once by protecting birthright citizenship. At least I know John Roberts knows how to read the Constitution.

I hear all the time from constituents who want to buy a home but simply cannot afford to. President Trump calling a bipartisan bill that would make housing more affordable “unimportant” shows just how clueless he is about the challenges facing the American people.
Acyn@Acyn

Reporter: What are your plans for the housing bill? Trump: I don’t know. I think it's so unimportant compared to the Save America Act. Democrats like it. They are getting things that I wouldn’t necessarily agree to. I made a lot of money with housing.

11 years ago, the Supreme Court ruled that marriage equality is the law of the land. Since then, I've been proud to vote for the Respect for Marriage Act to codify protections for same-sex and interracial marriages. Love is love.

I strongly oppose the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Trump administration to strip Temporary Protected Status from Haitians and Syrians who fled dangerous conditions, came to the United States legally, follow our laws, and are rebuilding their lives in America. Forcing law-abiding people back to countries still facing violence, instability, and humanitarian crises is both cruel and dangerous. These individuals sought refuge through legal channels and have become valued members of communities across our country. For many, being returned could amount to a death sentence. Our nation has a proud legacy of offering refuge to people fleeing oppression, violence, and persecution. Earlier this year, I voted for legislation that passed through the House to extend Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. The Senate must act swiftly to pass that legislation, and Congress must continue working to ensure that people who followed our laws and sought safety through legal channels are not needlessly forced back into harm's way.
SCOTUS Wire@scotus_wire

🚨 In a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court rules that courts cannot review the government’s decisions to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syria and Haiti and says the challengers’ race‑discrimination claim is unlikely to succeed.

The consequences of the Dobbs decision continue to be felt across America four years later. Abortion bans and restrictions have created significant barriers to reproductive health care and disrupted training for the next generation of physicians and other health care providers. That's why I'm reintroducing the Reproductive Health Care Training Act to expand training opportunities in states like California, where comprehensive reproductive health care training remains legal and available.
