This morning, I questioned @DNIGabbard about whether she told President Trump the truth: there was no imminent threat to justify war with Iran. The American people deserve answers from this Administration about why we are at war. I will continue to demand them.

As Director Gabbard testifies before the House Intelligence Committee, I want to remind her of her own words from 2020 warning about the consequences of war with Iran: "President Trump has committed an illegal and unconstitutional act of war, pushing our nation headlong into a war with Iran without any authorization from Congress. A war that would be so costly and devastating, it would make our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan look like a picnic."

I enjoyed meeting with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency to discuss how we can protect Lake Tahoe’s natural beauty while supporting the communities and local economy that depend on it. Lake Tahoe is one of our nation’s great treasures, and preserving it requires a thoughtful approach that balances environmental stewardship, public safety, housing, transportation, and tourism. We also discussed the importance of ensuring Tahoe has the tools and support it needs to manage growth responsibly and remain accessible for future generations. I’m grateful for TRPA’s partnership and look forward to continuing our work together on behalf of Northern California.

America cannot lead from a position of self-inflicted weakness. That is why the Foreign Service matters. Our diplomats help prevent conflict, strengthen our global leadership, and protect our interests abroad. This Administration’s mistreatment and purge of those public servants has undermined that vital mission and inflicted lasting damage on the diplomatic corps we rely on to keep America safe.

During today’s hearing, I pressed Trump administration officials and got them to confirm that they were not aware of any effort to alter U.S. commitments under the Six Assurances.

President Trump is wrong. He cannot unilaterally withdraw the United States from NATO. Trump’s own Secretary of State authored and successfully passed an amendment while in the Senate to prevent the president from doing exactly this.

I recently joined @SacCountyDA Thien Ho, local leaders, and law enforcement officers to launch the Sacramento Mail Theft Task Force. This new coordinated effort builds on my work to strengthen enforcement and crack down on mail theft by bringing together the District Attorney’s Office, local law enforcement, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to protect residents from fraud and hold criminals accountable. I will keep working to protect the integrity of our mail system and make sure Sacramento County residents receive their mail safely and on time.

This is vile and un-American. The First Amendment protects freedom of religion, and that includes our Muslim neighbors, friends, and fellow Americans. My Republican colleagues must condemn this pure and unbridled bigotry.

Teachers in Sacramento County and across our nation are underpaid. They do one of the most important jobs in our society and they deserve compensation and benefits that reflect the value they bring to our students, families, and communities. At the same time, many of our school districts are facing a difficult fiscal climate shaped by declining enrollment, rising costs, and budget cuts driven by the Trump administration’s attacks on public education. I urge both sides to reach a fair resolution that recognizes these fiscal realities, supports our teachers, and keeps our schools open.

On International Women’s Day, I’m celebrating my wife Janine, my daughter Sydra, and women everywhere who continue to break barriers, lead with strength, and inspire change. Today and every day, let’s recommit ourselves to advancing gender equality and protecting the rights and opportunities of women and girls in every community.

As we mark the 61st anniversary of Bloody Sunday, I’m thinking of my friend and American hero John Lewis. On March 7, 1965, John was brutally beaten by state troopers on the Edmund Pettus Bridge for marching for the right to vote. Those shocking images stirred the conscience of the nation and helped pave the way for the passage of the Voting Rights Act just months later. In 2019, Janine and I walked across that same bridge with him. It was a powerful reminder of the courage it took to move our country forward and why we can never take the right to vote for granted. John understood that democracy is not self-executing. It demands vigilance, participation, and determination to keep pushing our country closer to its ideals. That work is not finished. That’s why Congress must pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2025 to restore and strengthen the protections that generations of Americans fought and sacrificed for. We owe it to John and to every American who marched, bled, and sacrificed for this right to get this done.

Trump lied about lowering costs on day 1. He lied about no more forever wars. He lied about no more nation building. Trump and the GOP care more about a war in the Middle East than lowering the costs of gas and groceries here at home.

Honored to be recognized as a “Humane Champion” by the Humane World Action Fund after earning a 100+ score on its 2025 Humane Scorecard for my work in Congress to protect animals. I’ll keep fighting to combat animal cruelty, defend endangered species, and support commonsense policies that promote the welfare of animals.

Last night, I joined my colleagues on the House floor to mourn the loss of six American servicemembers, including Chief Warrant Officer Three Robert M. Marzan of Sacramento.    We have a solemn responsibility to care for the families of the fallen and for every American who wears our nation’s uniform.    I continue to pray for the safety of all our troops in harm’s way.

This Administration has failed to define the "imminent" threat to the American homeland. I cannot support giving President Trump a blank check to continue this war and put the lives of our servicemembers in harm's way. That is why I just voted for the War Powers Resolution to block his ability to continue this war without authorization from Congress.

The Department of Homeland Security was created to keep Americans safe. Kristi Noem failed to execute that mission. That’s why I supported her impeachment. I am glad to see her go. We must restore leadership at DHS that respects the Constitution, due process, and the rule of law.
