Congress has expressed no change in longstanding U.S. policy toward Taiwan. Our One-China policy, guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the Six Assurances, and the Three Joint Communiqués, remains the policy of the United States. Peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait remain firmly in the national security interests of the United States.

On National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor the brave law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. We remember their courage, their service, and the families and loved ones they left behind. Janine and I are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers today. Thank you to the officers across the Sacramento region and our nation who put on the badge every day to serve and protect our communities. We will never forget those we have lost.

I just voted for the third time to end President Trump’s illegal war with Iran. This war has been a strategic and costly failure for our nation. Thirteen American service members are dead, Iran’s regime remains entrenched, America’s diplomatic leverage has been diminished, and Americans are facing higher costs from the gas station to the grocery store. We must end this war as soon as possible and address the pressing issues facing the American people here at home.

The DOMINANCE Act unanimously passed out of the House Foreign Affairs Committee! I am proud to lead this legislation with @RepYoungKim to strengthen U.S. energy security, reduce reliance on China for critical minerals, and build more resilient supply chains with trusted allies and partners. I spoke at today's committee markup about why passing this legislation is so important for our national security.

The dismissal of 1,350 Foreign and Civil Service employees without clear rationale or justification is yet another instance of this Administration undermining the institutions and professionals responsible for advancing American leadership abroad. @RepJohnnyO and I led 14 House Democrats in demanding answers from the State Department about how these layoffs were carried out, whether merit played any role in the process, and the impact these vacancies will have on our national security and diplomatic readiness.

Trump’s war with Iran is making things more expensive for you and your family. We must end this illegal war and focus on real solutions to lower costs for working families.

I visited the FBI’s Sacramento office earlier this week to meet with agents working every day to keep the Sacramento region safe. I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the Sacramento FBI’s work combating violent crime, cyber threats, and financial scams targeting families and seniors in our community. I’m grateful for these dedicated public servants who work tirelessly to protect our region and uphold public safety.

These layoffs show a continued lack of respect for career professionals who dedicated their lives to serving our nation and underscore that the Administration has no clear plan or strategy to manage the State Department’s workforce. From infrastructure and public safety to supporting local small businesses, I appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from him about local priorities and how we can keep working together to deliver for our communities.

Happy National Teacher Appreciation Day! Today, I’m thinking of my mom who spent 35 years as a public school teacher. I saw firsthand the hard work, patience, and care she brought to her classroom every day. That same dedication is reflected in teachers across the Sacramento region and throughout our nation. Our teachers do far more than teach lessons. They build confidence, mentor students, and help shape the next generation. Despite doing one of the most important jobs in our society, too many educators remain underpaid. I will continue fighting to ensure our teachers receive the compensation and benefits that reflect the value they bring to our students, families, and communities.

Congratulations to Gisselle from El Camino Fundamental High School in Sacramento for winning my office’s Congressional Art Competition! The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed after decades of relentless advocacy by civil rights activists who fought, marched, and sacrificed to secure the right to vote. Today’s Supreme Court decision severely restricts the enforcement power of Section 2, enabling states to draw maps that dilute minority voting power and undermine fair representation in Congress. Congress must respond by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

Protecting our national security is not a partisan issue. Thank you to @Securing_Energy for the opportunity to discuss the bill I'm leading with @RepYoungKim to reduce our rare earth dependence on China and put our nation on the path toward long-term energy security.

It was great to welcome leaders from across the Sacramento region to D.C. last week for another successful Capitol-to-Capitol program! As the capital region of the world’s fourth largest economy, Sacramento has an important story to tell and a strong voice to bring to the federal level. We had productive conversations about the priorities that matter most to our region, from growing our economy and strengthening infrastructure to supporting families and improving our quality of life. Thank you to everyone who made the trip. I look forward to continuing our work together to bring additional federal support and resources home to the Sacramento region.
