I’m incredibly honored to have been sworn in yesterday to represent Texas’s 18th congressional district, and to have my wife Kaitlyn by my side. I stand on the incredible legacy built by this district, and today I’m ready to get to work.

We are not about to let this out-of-control administration ruin our Black joy. Especially not during Juneteenth! Happy Juneteenth y’all!

Juneteenth marks the day freedom finally reached the last enslaved people in the United States. It is a celebration of resilience, perseverance, and the generations who fought to make our nation live up to its founding ideals. As we honor that history, we must also recognize that the work of building a more just and equal country continues.

President Obama was the first president I ever voted for. I still remember watching the results come in that night and feeling hopeful about the future of our country. Today was a reminder that public service, respect for our institutions, and thoughtful leadership still matter. Congratulations to President Obama on his library.

54 years ago today, the Watergate scandal broke. At a moment when the country needed courage and conviction, Houston’s Barbara Jordan rose to the occasion. She reminded America that the Constitution matters, that no one is above the law, and that public service demands accountability. Her legacy continues to guide Texas’s 18th District and our country.

Spent time at the @HoustonFoodBank, the largest in the nation by distribution, and saw firsthand how many families rely on its services. Trump’s cuts to SNAP and state funding means more folks are turning to food banks for help. Families shouldn't have to wonder where their next meal is coming from. I'll keep carrying their stories with me and pushing for policies that put food on the table.

America was built by immigrants.  During Immigrant Heritage Month, House Democrats celebrate the generations of immigrants who have shaped this country’s history and continue to strengthen our communities.

As Harris County Attorney, I took on big polluters and beat them in court. I know exactly how these corporations operate, and I know the damage they leave behind in our communities. Congratulations to our new Harris County Attorney, Abbie Kamin! Jon Fombonne was my First Assistant and later appointed as County Attorney. I’m grateful for his leadership and for continuing the office’s work fighting for Harris County residents. Now the torch passes to Abbie. As the first woman ever elected Harris County Attorney, she’s making history and ushering in a new chapter for Harris County.

Americans can't afford the basics and Donald Trump doesn't care.  He is seriously out of touch with the American people.

Today I joined @RepSylviaGarcia and @RepAlGreen to recognize 14 years of #DACA. Dreamers are part of our communities. They're our neighbors, coworkers, small business owners, and friends. They belong here. The Trump administration keeps targeting immigrant communities, but we'll keep fighting back every step of the way.

They really let a UFC fighter call our only Black First Lady a man on the White House lawn at an official White House event … while thousands cheered and the biggest podcaster in the world smiled. There is no economic policy fix for this. Many of these people are just racist.

Medgar Evers was a father, a husband, a son, a brother, and a fearless fighter for civil rights. 63 years ago today, he was assassinated in his own driveway at just 37 years old because he dared to stand up for the right to vote and for equal justice under the law. His murder is a reminder that the freedoms we enjoy today were won through courage, sacrifice, and struggle. As Medgar Evers said, “Freedom has never been free.” So when people claim the fight for equality is over, they ignore the sacrifices of those who gave everything to move this country forward.

I didn't come to Congress to sit on the sidelines. I came here to hold Donald Trump and this administration accountable when they put politics ahead of people. We deserve leaders who will fight for them, ask tough questions, and stand up when something isn't right. That's exactly what I intend to do. Enjoyed talking with @ChewsViews about what's at stake for everyday Americans and the road ahead.

10 years ago today, 49 lives were taken in a senseless act of violence at Pulse Nightclub. Their lives mattered. Their stories mattered. And their memories deserve to be honored not just today, but every day. May we never forget those we lost, and keep working for a more compassionate future.
