House and Senate Republicans Release Statement Regarding Arrest of Hunter Rivera (Denver, CO – May 15, 2026) – Today, the House and Senate Republicans released the following statement regarding the arrest of Hunter Rivera: These charges are sickening, horrifying, and beyond reprehensible. There is no defense for anyone who preys on children, no excuses, and no place for that anywhere near public life or our party. We are calling on him as the Weld County Chair to resign immediately. There is no room in our party for these types of charges. We stand unequivocally with victims, with families, and with every law enforcement officer working to protect children from predators like this. These are the people we fight for every single day, and crimes against children deserve the strongest possible condemnation and accountability. We are grateful to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and investigators for their work to protect children and bring predators to justice.

My constituents constantly tell me they are getting crushed by rising utility costs. Yesterday, we passed SB26-182 in the House to help keep the lights on and prevent unrealistic energy timelines from driving bills even higher. This bill allows utilities to refile their clean energy plans on a delayed schedule, which will help keep the Ray Nixon coal plant open longer and protect reliability for Colorado Springs families. This is a HUGE win for Colorado Springs residents, businesses, & our military installations. #copolitics

On the 3rd Reading passage of the Competency Bill, SB149, yesterday: I have always fought to ensure violent offenders are not released back onto our streets to cause more harm. This bill closes dangerous gaps in Colorado’s competency & criminal justice systems after too many violent offenders found incompetent & unrestorable were released back into our communities with zero accountability & zero treatment. I am incredibly grateful to all victims and their families who courageously spoke up, the massive stakeholdering partners, & to the lawmakers on both sides who made public safety a priority. #copolitics

Thankful to get our bill passed through committee last night unanimously. This legislation is incredibly important to El Paso County residents in order to maintain reliable energy & keeping affordability in check while trying to meet state-mandated clean energy standards. This bill is a result of many months of negotiations from both sides of the issue. #copolitics

🚨🚨🚨HB26-1289 includes 25 separate changes to the tax code, resulting in a $42.36 million revenue increase that will largely be borne by businesses and investors. This comes on top of the roughly $589 million in new revenue from HB26-1221 through HB26-1223, which also places additional burdens on the business community. At the same time, the bill creates new tax benefits for select ‘green’ industries, continuing a pattern of prioritizing special interests over Colorado’s business community.

SB26-015 just passed UNANIMOUSLY in House Judiciary. A HUGE WIN for victims of child sex exploitation. This bill makes it clear that sexually exploited children are victims, strengthens sentencing so buyers face real consequences, & creates tougher penalties for online luring tied to commercial sexual exploitation of kids. A huge WIN for Colorado's kids! @RepCaldwell's SB26-015 just UNANIMOUSLY passed committee! This bill will change Colorado law by replacing outdated “child prostitution” terminology with “commercial sexual activity with a child” across numerous statutes, strengthening the related sentencing, and increasing internet luring of a child to a class 3 felony.
