Advocates sounded the alarm about the Miramar ICE facility, so I made a surprise oversight inspection to see for myself.

This has all the signs of a racial profiling stop gone wrong. This man had lived in our country for three and a half decades, peacefully and working hard to help Americans, when ICE stopped him on his way to work and then killed him. It never needed to happen.

The overcrowding at the Miramar ICE facility needs to be addressed. This office isn't designed to detain people, and the result was horrific.
When I conducted a surprise oversight inspection, conditions were inhumane. I'll keep the pressure on until that changes.
