Today we celebrated the dedication of the Don Welge Memorial Bridge, connecting Perryville to Chester, Illinois. I had the privilege of meeting with Don many times over the years to discuss this bridge, and I saw firsthand his unwavering commitment to making it a reality. It’s only fitting that this new bridge bears his name. His vision, determination, and love for his community will live on for generations every time someone crosses the Mississippi.

Tax-exempt status is a privilege, not a right, yet far too many nonprofits have been caught abusing that privilege. Reports that the New Israel Fund engaged in prohibited political campaign activity – while telling the IRS that it did not – demonstrate the need for stronger enforcement.
